A series of fluorescein-based β-C-glycosyl ketones were synthesized through aldol condensation of β-C-glycosyl ketones with fluorescein monoaldehyde under ambient reaction conditions in good yields. Formation of the expected product has been confirmed through different spectral techniques. Fluorescein-based β-C-glycosides show moderate anti-oxidant activities with maximum inhibitory activity of 60%.

Skin microbiota plays an essential role in the development and function of the cutaneous immune system, in the maintenance of the skin barrier through the release of antimicrobial peptides, and in the metabolism of some natural products. With the aim of characterizing changes in the cutaneous microbiota specifically associated with wound healing in the diabetic condition, we performed a 16 S rRNA gene Next Generation Sequencing of skin swabs taken within the ulcer bed of ten diabetic patients before (t0) and after 20 days of therapy (t20) with a fluorescein-based galenic treatment. Considering the twenty most representative genera, we found at t20 an increase of Corynebacterium, Peptostreptococcus, and Streptococcus, and a decrease of Enterococcus, Finegoldia, and Peptoniphilus genera.

Background: Successful implementation of capillary isoelectric focusing (cIEF) in general requires the use of reference points - markers of isoelectric point. The low-molecular-mass fluorescent compounds based on the fluorescein structure, capable of marking distinct isoelectric points (pIs) with good focusing ability, stability, high extinction coefficient, and fluorescence are an alternative to the peptide and protein pI markers.
Results: Four synthetic pathways were used to produce the ampholytic compounds and the structures along with their basic physical and chemical properties are given.

The study of human neural cells, their behaviour and migration are important areas of research in the biomedical field, particularly for potential therapeutic applications. The safety of using neural cells in therapy is still a concern due to a lack of information on long-term changes that may occur. While current methods of cell tracing explore gene manipulations, we elaborate approaches to cell marking with no genetic interference.

With the emergence of numerous food safety problems, rapid and accurate detection of histamine in food spoilage remains a challenge. To this end, we developed a simple design and easy synthesis of fluorescein-based probe FCHO to achieve specific and rapid (<1 s) quantitative detection of histamine through "imine formation" reaction. Significant enhanced fluorescence signal in response to histamine enabled our probe with high sensitivity as low as 51 nM.

A novel fluorescent probe was fabricated using fluorescein-based ionic liquids (ILs) to effectively achieve rapid and accurate detection of Hg and CHHg in food. A probe developed by addition of modified fluorescein into the functionalised ILs presented a promising sensitivity toward Hg and CHHg at concentrations of 0.4 and 60 nM, respectively.
