In light of controversy concerning the classical barrier for the F + H2O → HF + OH reaction, higher level theoretical methods are applied. Both aug-cc-pV5Z CCSD(T) and cc-pVQZ full CCSDT methods predict a low classical barrier of about 2 kcal/mol. For the analogous water dimer reaction, the presence of the second water molecule erases this barrier entirely. An entrance complex F···(H2O)2 is found lying 7.3 kcal/mol below separated F + (H2O)2. A barrier follows this complex on the reaction coordinate, but lying 3.1 kcal/mol below the reactants. There is also an exit complex HF···H2O3 lying 11.0 kcal/mol below the separated products HF + H2O3. Thus the reactions of atomic fluorine with the water monomer and dimer are qualitatively different.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a complex gastrointestinal disorder attributed to genetic and environmental factors. Microcystin-leucine-arginine (MC-LR) is an environmental toxin that accumulates in the gut and produces intestinal damage. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of exposure to MC-LR on development and progression of IBD as well examine the underlying mechanisms of microcystin-initiated tissue damage.

The contamination of water systems by antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin (CIP), which is used to treat bacterial infections, poses severe risks to environmental safety and public health. To address this issue, a novel zwitterionic polymeric nanocomposite (PNs-HTC) was developed in this study. This novel material was synthesized using alkylated chitosan ionic macromonomers, ionic monomers and combined with hydrotalcite (HTC) via in situ free radical polymerization.

Monitoring the quantity and quality of karst springs is essential for groundwater resource management. However, it is challenging to robustly forecast the karst spring discharge and pollutant concentration due to the high complexity and heterogeneity of karst aquifers. Few researchers have addressed the long-term prediction of hourly spring quantity and quality, which is crucial for emergency management.

With high microporosity, good dispersibility, excellent specific surface area and large content surface functional group, hydrochar demonstrates significant advantages and strong affinity towards pollutants in water. Modification method plays a significant role for anion adsorption by modified hydrochar, layered double hydroxide (LDH) modified hydrocarbons (Mg/Al-LDH@HC-HCl) have been synthesized through a one-step hydrothermal approach and activated with hydrochloric acid in this paper. The physical and chemical characteristics of the hydrochar, both before and after modification, are analyzed using BET, SEM-EDS, TEM, XRD, FTIR, and XPS to explore the phosphate adsorption mechanisms.

Monitoring of p-nitrophenol (PNP) and 3-methyl-4-nitrophenol (PNMC) in human urine and environmental water is of great importance for human health assessment and environmental protection, as they are both urinary metabolites of some poisonous pesticides and priority environmental pollutants. However, efficient extraction of trace levels of PNP and PNMC from complex matrices remains challenging. This study presented the synthesis of histidine-modified ZIF-90 on natural eggshell membrane (ESM@His-ZIF-90) via a facile one-step in-situ growth strategy, and its application as an adsorbent for dispersive membrane extraction (DME) of PNP and PNMC in human urine and environmental water.
