A new design method of fractional-order proportional-integral controllers is proposed based on fractional calculus and Bode's ideal transfer function for a first-order-plus-dead-time process model. It can be extended to be applied to various dynamic models. Tuning rules were analytically derived to cope with both set-point tracking and disturbance rejection problems. Simulations of a broad range of processes are reported, with each simulated controller being tuned to have a similar degree of robustness in terms of resonant peak to other reported controllers. The proposed controller consistently showed improved performance over other similar controllers and established integer PI controllers.

This manuscript proposes the Jellyfish Search Optimization (JSO) algorithm-based Fractional Order Proportional-Integral-Derivative (FOPID) controller tuning for a paper machine headbox. The novelty of this method lies in integrating the JSO technique for optimizing the parameters of the FOPID controller to monitor and control headbox pressure and stock level efficiently and effectively. The JSO algorithm ensures optimal tuning of controller parameters by minimizing error indices such as Integral of Squared Error (ISE), Integral of Time Absolute Error (ITAE), and Integral of Absolute Error (IAE).

Spherical tanks have been predominantly used in process industries due to their large storage capability. The fundamental challenges in process industries require a very efficient controller to control the various process parameters owing to their nonlinear behavior. The current research work in this paper aims to propose the Approximate Generalized Time Moments (AGTM) optimization technique for designing Fractional-Order PI (FOPI) and Fractional-Order PID (FOPID) controllers for the nonlinear Single Spherical Tank Liquid Level System (SSTLLS).

A wind turbine system (WTS) is a highly coupled and nonlinear system where the output power depends upon highly uncertain wind speed. Therefore, the quality of produced power becomes a challenging problem for researchers. Direct Vector Control (DVC) is a powerful and widely utilized power control strategy to deal with winds that vary rapidly and randomly.

This paper introduces the Walrus Optimization Algorithm (WaOA) to address load frequency control and automatic voltage regulation in a two-area interconnected power systems. The load frequency control and automatic voltage regulation are critical for maintaining power quality by ensuring stable frequency and voltage levels. The parameters of fractional order Proportional-Integral-Derivative (FO-PID) controller are optimized using WaOA, inspired by the social and foraging behaviors of walruses, which inhabit the arctic and sub-arctic regions.
