Published: October 2013

Four new compounds, including three new steroids (1-3) and one new sesquiterpene (6), and two new natural products (4-5), as well as three known steroids (7-9) were isolated from the twigs of Turraea pubescens. Compounds 3-5 are C₂₂ steroids isolated from the Meliaceae family for the first time. Their structures were elucidated by extensive NMR and MS analyses. Compound 1 exhibited inhibitory activity against lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW264.7 cells with an IC₅₀ value of 11.5 μM.

To examine the reproduction fitness coefficients and individual-level fitness of Toona ciliata var. pubescens, their sexual reproduction and natural regeneration were investigated during 2006-2016, with four natural populations in Jiulianshan National Reserve as test objects. The results showed that there were only 2-10 trees for the natural populations of T.

The sap flow and environmental factors, including temperature, water content and water potential of soil, were continuously measured by using an auto-data collection system at the upper and lower slopes of Toona ciliata var. pubescens plantation in July to October, 2012 to investigate the relationships between the sap flow and environmental factors. The results showed that, the trunk sap flow velocity of the two positions both presented a typical single-peak curve, with high values in the daytime and low values in the nighttime.
