In this issue, Xu et al. (2013) report their interesting discovery of a critical step for initiating BMP signal transduction that requires arginine methylation at the plasma membrane.

The Masquelet technique that combines a foreign body reaction (FBR)-induced vascularized tissue membrane with staged bone grafting for reconstruction of segmental bone defect has gained wide attention in Orthopedic surgery. The success of Masquelet hinges on its ability to promote formation of a "periosteum-like" FBR-induced membrane at the bone defect site. Inspired by Masquelet's technique, here a novel approach is devised to create periosteum mimetics from decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM), engineered in vivo through FBR, for reconstruction of segmental bone defects.

Sinus ridge augmentation is a surgical procedure aimed at increasing the volume of bone in the posterior maxilla to permit successful dental implant placement. The current review article presents an overview of various techniques used for sinus ridge augmentation, including the lateral window technique, crestal approach, transalveolar technique, and piezoelectric osteotomy. The article examines the advantages and limitations of each technique, such as invasiveness, surgical difficulty, and the requirement for additional procedures.

T-box genes encode transcription factors, which control developmental processes and promote cancer if deregulated. Recently, we described the lymphoid TBX-code, which collates T-box gene activities in normal lymphopoiesis, enabling identification of members deregulated in lymphoid malignancies. Here, we have extended this analysis to cover myelopoiesis, compiling the myeloid TBX-code and, thus, highlighting which of these genes might be deregulated in myeloid tumor types.

Neuromorphic circuits that can function under extreme deformations are important for various data-driven wearable and robotic applications. Herein, biphasic liquid metal particle (BMP) with unprecedented stretchability and strain-insensitivity (ΔR/R = 1.4@ 1200% strain) is developed to realize a stretchable neuromorphic circuit that mimics a spike-based biologic sensory system.
