Background: Professionalism is a core quality which has to be developed and imbibed by medical students. However, training in professionalism was not a part of the medical curriculum until recently when the Competency-Based Medical Education system was introduced for undergraduate medical students in India, by the National Medical Commission. However, there has been no formal training on professionalism, in the curriculum of postgraduate (PG) medical students in India.

Background Evidence-based research aids in decision-making in the health sector for developing health policies for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Medical research is not taught in the undergraduate curriculum. Radiology Residency programs in the United States use a set of six core competencies as laid out by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to evaluate the foundational skills of every resident. Despite the fact that educational skills are included under the heading of Practice-Based Learning and Improvement in the ACGME guidelines for radiology residents, it is often underappreciated and undervalued, when compared with medical knowledge or patient care. In this paper, the authors lay out the important role of residents-as-educators and how it can be inculcated as part of formal training during residency.

The model core curriculum for pharmacy education and professional standards for pharmacists established by the Japan Pharmaceutical Association aim to inculcate knowledge and skills on basic life support (BLS) and ensure that pharmacy students are well equipped with knowledge on BLS. In this study, pharmacy students were enrolled in the PUSH course, a BLS training course for citizens, and a questionnaire survey was conducted before and after the course to evaluate the change in students awareness about BLS and overall satisfaction with the course. The participants enrolled for the course were fourth-year students from the School of Pharmacy, Hyogo Medical University, who consented to participate in the study.
