Periodic multilayer structures of quarterwave and multiple quarterwave stacks with shifted ratios of high and low index layers in the half-wave pairs are considered. Analytical dependencies of the reference wavelength reflectance and the width of high reflectance zone on the number of layers, fraction quarterwave and layer refractive indices are obtained. The structures are used as starting designs for notch filters. Obtained dependencies allow one to estimate in advance parameters required to achieve target spectral characteristics.

Physical and photophysical properties of starch-based biopolymer films containing 5-(4-nitrophenyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-amine (NTA) powder as a nanofiller were examined using atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), stationary UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy as well as resonance light scattering (RLS) and time-resolved measurements, and where possible, analyzed with reference to pristine NTA solutions. AFM studies revealed that the addition of NTA into the starch biopolymer did not significantly affect surface roughness, with all examined films displaying similar Sq values ranging from 70.7 nm to 79.

Hydrogels with spatial-temporal control over chemical and physical properties allow for the creation of cellular niches with controllable properties that better mimic tissue environments. Here, we present a protocol for synthesizing hydrogels incorporating photocaged oligonucleotides that can be activated with non-ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths. We detail the synthesis of bulk hydrogels and spatially defined hydrogels with different chemical functionalities that all share common photocaged DNA.
