Intestinal barrier damage causes an imbalance in the intestinal flora and microbial environment, promoting a variety of gastrointestinal diseases. This study aimed to explore the mechanism by which adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) repair intestinal barrier damage. The human colon adenocarcinoma cell line Caco-2 and rats were treated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to establish in vitro and in vivo models, respectively, of intestinal barrier damage.

Glyoxalase II (Glo II) is a crucial enzyme in the glyoxalase system, and plays a vital role in detoxifying harmful metabolites and maintaining cellular redox balance. Dysregulation of Glo II has been linked to various health conditions, including cancer and diabetes. This study introduces a novel method using 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (2,4-DNPH) to measure Glo II activity.

Background: Ischemic stroke belongs to "apoplexy" and its pathogenesis is characterized by qi deficiency and blood stasis combining with phlegm-damp clouding orifices. Buqi-Huoxue-Tongnao decoction (BHTD) is a traditional Chinese medicine formula for qi deficiency, blood stasis and phlegm obstruction syndrome. However, its efficacy and potential mechanism on ischemic stroke are still unclear.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) leads to death within 2-5 yr. Currently, available drugs only slightly prolong survival. We present novel insights into the pathophysiology of (SOD1)- and in particular (FUS)-ALS by revealing a supposedly central role of glycolic acid (GA) and D-lactic acid (DL)-both putative products of the Parkinson's disease associated glyoxylase DJ-1.
