Sinonasal polyps are benign projections of edematous nasal mucosa lined by respiratory epithelium. Langerhans cells (LCs) belonging to the dendritic cell family located in respiratory epithelium are involved in antigen presentation and maintenance of local immunological homeostasis. This study aims to elucidate the morphology and distribution of CD1a positive LCs in normal nasal mucosa and compare the same with polypoid nasal mucosa by immunohistochemistry.

Perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms comprise a family of rare neoplasms composed of morphologically distinctive perivascular epithelioid cells exhibiting a "myomelanocytic" immunophenotype. The distinction of perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms from other tumors with melanocytic and smooth muscle differentiation can be difficult. A recent study has suggested that perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms routinely express CD1a, a Langerhans cell-associated transmembrane glycoprotein involved in antigen presentation and that expression of this marker may be helpful in the distinction of perivascular epithelioid cell neoplasms from various mimics.

Uterine epithelioid smooth muscle tumors and uterine perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) are known to display such a substantial overlap in morphologic and immunophenotypic characteristics that the existence of the latter as a distinct clinicopathologic entity at this location has been called into question. Recent research suggests that the constituent entities of the PEComa family at all anatomical locations, including lymphangioleiomyomatosis of the uterus, uniformly display immunoreactivity for CD1a. The purpose of this study is to determine the proportion of uterine epithelioid smooth muscle tumors that may similarly be CD1a-positive.

Background And Objectives: The identification of signals critical for the pathophysiology of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) should contribute to the development of novel, more effective therapeutic strategies. Common gamma-chain signaling cytokines (gammac-cytokines) - interleukins 2, 4, 7, 9 and 15 - differentially regulate T-cell development, survival, proliferation and differentiation. Although studies exist on some individual cytokines, no comprehensive analysis of the effects of the Zc-cytokine family on malignant T cells has been reported.
