Background And Objectives: Current chemotherapies of cutaneous leihmaniasis have faced to some problems and limitations; Development of new leishmanicidal drugs from different sources like herbal plants, are crucially important. The objective of the present study was evaluation of in vitro activity of Alkanna frigida extracts in comparison with glucantime against Leishmania major.

Materials And Methods: L. major promastigotes were exposed to different concentrations of the A. frigida extracts, processed by ethyl acetate, ethanol, hexane and chloroform. The inhibitory effect, as the IC50, were calculated after 24, 48 and 72 hours by linear regression analysis values of the concentrations employed.

Results: The significant inhibition was observed after 24 and 48 hours with different concentrations of compounds (p < 0.05 in all tests). All extracts had potent activity against proliferation of the promastigotes, comparing to the untreated negative control. It could compete with the glucantime efficacy in some concentrations. Ethyl acetate and ethanol extractions showed potent IC50 value, 106 µg/ml and 86 µg/ml, respectively. Hexane and chloroform extractions had poor efficacy after 24 hours; however, the efficacy increased after 48 and 72 hours.

Conclusion: The results indicated that the A. frigida has appropriate inhibitory effects on the growth of L. major promastigotes in vitro and can be of herbal targets for further investigation in vivo.

Plants are sessile organisms and any changes in environmental factors activate various responses and defense mechanisms. plants widely inhabit harsh conditions of arid and semiarid ecosystems. Using two species-a subshrub, , and an annual-biennial herb, -the functioning of the antioxidant system of plants in semiarid territories have been examined.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), comprising Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC), is a heterogeneous state of chronic intestinal inflammation. Intestinal innate immunity, including innate immune cells, defends against pathogens and excessive entry of gut microbiota, while preserving immune tolerance to resident intestinal microbiota, and may be characterized by its capacity to produce a rapid and nonspecific reaction. The association between microbiota dysbiosis and the pathogenesis of IBD is complex and dynamic.

Article Synopsis
  • * NMR analysis, utilizing pyridine-d for improved resolution of B-ring signals, helped correct the structural assignments of three related compounds through 2D NMR experiments.
  • * LC-PDA-ESI-MS with a specialized PFP stationary phase confirmed the NMR findings and analyzed several extracts to detect the presence of the identified compounds, showcasing distinct mass spectral features through fragmentation.

The objective of this research was to characterize the chemical composition of ethanolic extracts of the lichen species , , and , their antioxidant activity, and enzymatic inhibition through and molecular docking analysis. In total phenol content, FRAP, ORAC, and DPPH assays, the extracts showed significant antioxidant activity, and in assays for the inhibition of pancreatic lipase, -glucosidase, and α-amylase enzymes, together with studies for the prediction of pharmacokinetic properties, toxicity risks, and intermolecular interactions of compounds, the extracts evidenced inhibitory potential. A total of 13 compounds were identified by UHPLC-ESI-QTOF-MS in , 18 compounds in , and 12 compounds in .

Phytoremediation technology, as an eco-friendly and cost-effective approach, is widely used to restore soil contaminated by heavy metal(loid)s. However, the adaptability and absorption capacity of plants to multiple elements are the crucial factors affecting the application of phytoremediation in mining areas. In this study, dominant native plant species and their paired soils were collected near a lead-zinc mine in Inner Mongolia, to assess the ecological risk of heavy metal(loid)s and phytoremediation potential.
