In this work we investigate the adsorption of polyelectrolyte chains onto uniformly charged cylindrical macroions by means of the Metropolis Monte Carlo simulations and weighted histogram analysis method. Adopting a simplified model for macromolecules and treating the electrolytic solution in the Debye-Hückel level, conformational properties of the adsorbed chain, such as the radius of gyration and the thickness of the adsorbed layer, are provided as a function of ionic strength and macroion charge density. By analysis of the free energy profile as a function of the radius of gyration it was possible to identify first-order-like transitions between adsorbed and desorbed states and obtain a macroion charge density dependence of the critical ionic strength in good agreement with experiments.

Computational Model of the Effective Thermal Conductivity of a Bundle of Round Steel Bars.

Materials (Basel)

Institute of Electric Power Engineering, Czestochowa University of Technology, Armii Krajowej 17, 42-200 Czestochowa, Poland.

During the heat treatment of round steel bars, a heated charge in the form of a cylindrically formed bundle is placed in a furnace. This type of charge is a porous granular medium in which a complex heat flow occurs during heating. The following heat transfer mechanisms occur simultaneously in this medium: conduction in bars, conduction within the gas, thermal radiation between the surfaces of the bars, and contact conduction across the joints between the adjacent bars.

Optical misalignment between transmitter and receiver leads to power loss and mode crosstalk in a mode division multiplexing (MDM) free-space optical (FSO) link. We report both numerical simulations and experimental results on the propagation performance of two typical vector beams, C-point polarization full Poincaré beams (FPB), and V-point polarization cylindrical vector beams (CVB), compared to homogeneous polarization scalar vortex beams (SVB) under optical misalignment. The FSO communication performance under misalignment using different transmit beams is evaluated in terms of power loss, mode crosstalk, power penalty, etc.

Light Absorption-Enhanced Ultra-Thin Perovskite Solar Cell Based on Cylindrical MAPbI Microstructure.

Materials (Basel)

School of Physics and Electronic-Information Engineering, Hubei Engineering University, Xiaogan 432000, China.

In order to promote power conversion efficiency and reduce energy loss, we propose a perovskite solar cell based on cylindrical MAPbI3 microstructure composed of a MAPbI perovskite layer and a hole transport layer (HTL) composed of PEDOT:PSS. According to the charge transport theory, which effectually increases the contact area of the HTL, promoting the electronic transmission capability, the local field enhancement and scattering effects of the surface plasmon polaritons help to couple the incident light to the solar cell, which can increase the absorption of light in the active layer of the solar cell and improve its light absorption efficiency (LAE). based on simulation results, a cylindrical microstructure of the perovskite layer increases the contact area of the hole transport layer, which could improve light absorption, quantum efficiency (QE), short-circuit current density (J), and electric power compared with the perovskite layer of other structures.

Optical vortices possess a helical phase wavefront with central phase dislocation and orbital angular momentum. We demonstrated three-dimensional microstructure formation using a femtosecond optical vortex beam. Two-photon polymerization of photocurable resin was induced by long-term exposure, resulting in the fabrication of cylindrical structures.
