A judicious analysis of previously published experimental data leads one to conclude that the ground state of iron(II) phthalocyanine is an orbitally degenerate spin triplet a(1g)(2) e(g)(↑↓↑) b(2g)(↑) ((3)Eg). The ligand field parameters, in relation to Racah's C, are approximately as follows: B20∕C = 0.84, B40∕C = 0.0074. The uniqueness of this result is demonstrated by means of a special diagram in the B20∕C - B40∕C plane (under additional conditions that B44∕B40 = 35∕3 and B∕C = 0.227). The system is in a strong-ligand-field regime, which enables the use of single-determinant techniques corrected for correlations within the 3d shell of Fe.

Activating photosensitizers with long-wavelength excitation is an important parameter for effective photodynamic therapy due to the minimal toxicity of this light, its superior tissue penetration, and excellent spatial resolution. Unfortunately, most Ir(III) complexes suffer from limited absorption within the phototherapeutic window, rendering them ineffective against deep-seated and/or large tumors, which poses a significant barrier to their clinical application. To address this issue, several efforts have been recently made to shift the absorption of Ir(III) photosensitizers to the deep-red/near-infrared region by using different strategies: functionalization with organic fluorophores, including porphyrinoid compounds, and ligand design π-extension and donor-acceptor interactions.

Searching for single-molecule magnets (SMM) with large effective blocking barriers, long relaxation times, and high magnetic blocking temperatures is vitally important not only for the fundamental research of magnetism at the molecular level but also for the realization of new-generation magnetic memory unit. Actinides (An) atoms possess extremely strong spin-orbit coupling (SOC) due to their 5 orbitals, and their ground multiplets are largely split into several sublevels because of the strong interplay between the SOC of An atoms and the crystal field (CF) formed by ligand atoms.
