Avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) is a significant pathogen infecting poultry that is responsible for high mortality, morbidity and severe economic losses to the poultry industry globally, posing a substantial risk to the health of poultry. APEC encounters reactive oxygen species (ROS) during the infection process and thus has evolved antioxidant defense mechanisms to protect against oxidative damage. The imbalance of ROS production and antioxidant defenses is known as oxidative stress, which results in oxidative damage to proteins, lipids and DNA, and even bacterial cell death.

Introduction: Electrical stimulation (E-stim) can reduce the impact of complications, like spasticity, bladder dysfunction in people with spinal cord injuries (SCIs), enhancing quality of life and health outcomes. With SCI prevalence high in regional Australia and a shift towards home-based community integrated care, the perspectives of people with SCI and healthcare professionals on current and future use of E-stim home-devices are needed.

Methods: A mixed-methods concurrent triangulation approach was used.

Light intensity-regulated glycogen synthesis and pollutant removal in microalgal-bacterial granular sludge for wastewater treatment.

Water Res

December 2024

Engineering Laboratory of Low-Carbon Unconventional Water Resources Utilization and Water Quality Assurance, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Nankai University, Tianjin, 300350, PR China.

As light intensity plays a pivotal role in the microalgal-bacterial granular sludge (MBGS) process, understanding its impact on system performance and energy dynamics is essential. This study investigated the effects of varying light intensities (20, 100, 200, and 300 μ mol/m²/s) on the performance of MBGS in urban wastewater treatment, with a particular focus on glycogen accumulation and pollutant removal. The results demonstrated that light intensity significantly influenced microbial community structure, glycogen accumulation, and pollutant removal efficiency.

Transparent exopolymer particles (TEP) research: From the ocean to water treatment.

J Environ Manage

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Songliao Aquatic Environment Ministry of Education, School of Municipal and Environmental Engineering, Jilin Jianzhu University, Changchun, 130118, China. Electronic address:

Transparent Exopolymer Particles (TEP), closely related to the carbon cycle due to their high carbon-to-nitrogen ratio, have become a hot research topic. However, despite the growing interest in this field, there is a lack of comprehensive analysis providing a clear developmental background and quantitative research on the overall trends of TEP studies. To address the gap, this article utilizes VOSviewer and CiteSpace to conduct a bibliometric analysis of TEP research.
