In Rhode Island, health care access, whether measured as having a regular source of care or as having health insurance, is better than the U.S. average. However, health care access does not necessarily translate into better health outcomes. Rhode Island has not fared better than the rest of the nation in ending or decreasing health disparities across socioeconomic and racial demographics in spite of improved access to quality health insurance products. In June 2011, law RIGL 23-64.1 directed the establishment of a Commission of Heath Advocacy and Equity. It requires a cross-section of state agency and community members to focus on the social determinants of health, and prepare biennial reports with public participation. The law will serve to remind the government and the public that objectives for the well-being of the population are best achieved when all sectors include health as a key component of policy development.

Methods: We conducted a case-control study nested in a multicenter, population-based cohort of 8175 women aged ≥ 18 years with DCIS diagnosed between 1987 and 2016 and followed for a median duration of 83 months. Cases (n = 497) were women with a first diagnosis of DCIS who developed a subsequent IBC ≥ 6 months later; controls (2/case; n = 959) were matched to cases on age at and calendar year of DCIS diagnosis.

Studies that included individuals with significant comorbidities or < 5 years of follow-up were excluded.

Tuberculosis, influenza virus, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are common diseases whose pathogens are uptaken into macrophages. Aims: We evaluated the safety, efficacy, and patient adherence to oral ANS-6637, a selective, reversible inhibitor of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2), for treating alcohol use disorder (AUD).
Methods: A 3-arm, double-blind, randomized, proof-of-concept human laboratory study embedded in a 5-week multisite clinical trial tested 200 mg and 600 mg daily doses of ANS-6637 compared to placebo in treatment-seeking adults with AUD. After 1 week of medication, participants completed an alcohol cue reactivity session.
