Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a chronic health problem whose prevalence is increasing. Nutrition and nutrition-related factors, one of the modifiable risk factors for CKD, are of primary importance. The key to planning optimal nutritional therapy is accurately determining energy requirements and total energy expenditure.

Introduction: Pediatric sepsis remains a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Africa. Nearly half of pediatric sepsis deaths occur in previously healthy children. The role of inborn errors of immunity (IEI) in susceptibility to sepsis is yet to be identified and their prevalence amongst previously healthy children admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) is unclear.

Background: Postoperative urinary retention (POUR), a known complication following total joint arthroplasty (TJA), remains inconsistent in its diagnostic criteria, prevalence, and risk factors. This study aims to quantify POUR rates, identify risk factors, and assess complications associated with catheterization in TJA.
Methods: A single-center cohort undergoing TJA between January 2015 and December 2022 was retrospectively reviewed.

Direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) use has significantly increased because major medical organizations endorse their role for conditions in which anticoagulation is indicated. Owing to important pharmacokinetic properties, the use of apixaban and rivaroxaban requires careful consideration in at-risk populations such as those with kidney disease. Both apixaban and rivaroxaban undergo some degree of renal elimination, and thus total drug exposure is increased in patients with renal insufficiency and/or those undergoing renal replacement therapy (RRT).

Introduction: Little is known regarding the comparison of cardiovascular and kidney outcomes between lupus nephritis (LN) and other etiologies of chronic kidney disease (CKD).
Methods: Using data from the Swedish Renal Registry (2006-2021), we compared long-term outcomes between patients with LN-CKD and patients with CKD due to primary glomerular diseases (PGD) and other CKD causes (Other-CKD, mainly diabetes and nephroangiosclerosis). Adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) of mortality, major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and kidney replacement therapy (KRT) were estimated using Cox proportional hazard models.
