Air samples were seasonally collected in Hexi Corridor and Lanzhou, Gansu province, using polyurethane foam (PUF) based passive air samplers for a year and determined hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethanes (DDTs). Atmospheric concentrations of sigma HCHs (alpha-HCH +beta-HCH +gamma-HCH +delta-HCH) and sigma DDTs (p,p'-DDT + o,p'-DDT + p,p'-DDE + p,p'-DDD) were 86.22 pg x m(-3) and 34.06 pg x m(-3) in Hexi Corridor and Lanzhou with background concentrations of 54.41 pg x m(-3) and 21.56 pg x m(-3), respectively, which were lower than previously reported values elsewhere. In general, the seasonal pollution characteristics of sigma HCHs and sigma DDTs exhibited higher levels with the average concentrations of 127.4 pg x m(-3) and 47.06 pg x m(-3) in autumn, respectively. Furthermore, relatively higher residual concentrations of HCHs and DDTs were found in Jiuquan, Anxi and Zhangye, relating to their more arable lands and more intensively historical usage. Source apportionment indicated HCHs were mainly originated from historical technical-HCHs residues and recent Lindane usage. Recently introduced technical-DDTs was highly responsible for DDTs contamination, whereas the higher concentrations of o,p'-DDT observed in Jiuquan and Anxi may be attributed to dicofol usage. In addition, human exposure to HCHs and DDTs in Hexi Corridor and Lanzhou via inhalation could be relatively low.

The Yugur people represent one of the ethnic groups residing within the Hexi Corridor, distinguishable by their small population size, linguistic diversity, intricate ancestral components, serving as a quintessential exemplar of the populations inhabiting this corridor. There are still many controversial issues in the academic community regarding the origin, migration, and formation process of the Yugur. In this study, we explored the formation process of the Yugur from the perspective of molecular anthropology, based on the paternal genetic characteristics of the Yugur people.

Scientifically recognizing and mastering the spatial-temporal response of habitat quality to land use change and its internal mechanism is the basis of seeking sustainable development in arid areas. Based on the data of land use in 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020, the land use transfer matrix model, dynamic attitude and state degree model, InVEST model, and geographically weighted regression model were adopted. The research results were as follows: ① From 1990 to 2020, the area of unused land in Hexi Corridor changed the most, with a decrease of 3 021 km and the cultivated land, construction land, and water area increased by 2 343.

Snow is a valuable carrier for recording atmospheric information and snowmelt constitutes a crucial hydrological resource for ecosystem sustainability and human activities. The agriculture, industry, livelihoods and ecological security in the Hexi Corridor are dependent on the support of glacier snowmelt in Qilian Mountains of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. We investigated the main water-soluble ions, trace elements and boron isotopes composition of snow at different altitudes in the Qiyi Glacier of the Qilian Mountains from 12 to 23, Aug.

Modification of g-CN with metal-free biomaterials through an environmentally friendly, low-energy, facile, and rapid single-step method is desired for the preparation of photocatalysts with efficient activity and high selectivity of CO reduction but remains a great challenge. Herein, we develop a phase-transitioned protein modification strategy for photocatalysts through superfast amyloid-like protein assembly on surfaces using a one-step sequential coating method. Metal-free carbon nitride/protein heterojunction composite photocatalysts (the phase-transitioned lysozyme (PTL), phase-transitioned bovine serum albumin (PTB), and phase-transitioned ovalbumin (PTO)-coated carbon nitride@SiO (CN@SiO) and bioinspired carbon nitride hollow nanospheres (CN-HS) obtained by etching of CN@SiO) are prepared using lysozyme, bovine serum albumin, and ovalbumin.
