A new compound with a non-centrosymmetric structure, potassium tetra-kis-[dioxomolybdenum(IV)] arsenate trioxide, K(MoO2)4O3(AsO4), has been synthesized by a solid-state reaction. The [(MoO2)4O3(AsO4)](+) three-dimensional framework consists of single arsenate AsO4 tetra-hedra, MoO6 octa-hedra, MoO5 bipyramids and bi-octa-hedral units of edge-sharing Mo2O10 octa-hedra. The [Mo2O8]∞ octa-hedral chains running along the a-axis direction are connected through their corners to the AsO4 tetra-hedra, MoO6 octa-hedra and MoO5 bipyramids, so as to form large tunnels propagating along the a axis in which the K(+) cations are located. This structure is compared with compounds containing M 2O10 (M = Mo, V, Fe) dimers and with those containing M 2O8 (M = V) chains.

The title compound, ammonium trinickel(II) hydrogen arsenate arsenate di-hydroxide, was synthesized under hydro-thermal conditions. Its crystal structure is isotypic with that of K[Cu(HAsO)(AsO)(OH)] and is characterized by pseudo-hexa-gonal (001) [NiAsO(OH)O(OH)] layers formed from vertex- and edge-sharing [NiO(OH)] octa-hedra and [AsO(OH)] tetra-hedra as the building units. The hydrogen atom of the OH group shows occupational disorder and was refined with a site occupation factor of 1/2, indicating the equal presence of [HAsO] and [AsO] groups.

The isostructural compounds caesium deca-sodium tetra-zirconium nona-arsenate, CsNaZr(AsO), and caesium deca-sodium tetra-hafnium nona-arsenate, CsNaHf(AsO), arose as unexpected single-crystal products from the reactions of NaCO, MO ( = Zr, Hf) and AsO in a eutectic flux of NaCl and CsCl. They consist of O octa-hedra and AsO tetra-hedra sharing vertices to generate three-dimensional polyhedral networks encapsulating the caesium and sodium ions. The MO groups share all their vertices with adjacent As atoms but the As atoms have one or two 'terminal' O atoms not bonded to Zr or Hf.

In our attempt to search for mixed alkaline-earth and transition metal arsenates, the title compound, barium dimanganese(II) bis-(arsenate), has been synthesized by employing a high-temperature RbCl flux. The crystal structure of BaMn(AsO) is made up of MnO octa-hedra and AsO tetra-hedra assembled by sharing corners and edges into infinite slabs with composition [Mn(AsO)] that extend parallel to the plane. The barium cations reside between parallel slabs maintaining the inter-slab connectivity through coordination to eight oxygen anions.

The crystal structures of hydro-thermally synthesized silver(I) aluminium bis-[hydrogen arsenate(V)], AgAl(HAsO), silver(I) gallium bis-[hydrogen arsenate(V)], AgGa(HAsO), silver gallium diarsenate(V), AgGaAsO, and sodium gallium diarsenate(V), NaGaAsO, were determined from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data collected at room temperature. The first two compounds are representatives of the MCV-3 structure type known for KSc(HAsO), which is characterized by a three-dimensional anionic framework of corner-sharing alternating O octa-hedra ( = Al, Ga) and singly protonated AsO tetra-hedra. Inter-secting channels parallel to [101] and [110] host the Ag cations, which are positionally disordered in the Ga compound, but not in the Al compound.

The title compound, tetra-sodium hepta-nickel hexa-arsenate, was obtained by ceramic synthesis and crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/m. The asymmetric unit contains seven Ni atoms of which two have site symmetry 2/m and three site symmetry 2, four As atoms of which two have site symmetry m and two site symmetry 2, three Na atoms of which two have site symmetry 2, and fifteen O atoms of which four have site symmetry m. The structure of Na4Ni7(AsO4)6 is made of layers of Ni octa-hedra and As tetra-hedra assembled in sheets parallel to the bc plane.
