We examined the accuracy of arthroscopy to diagnose disease in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and to allocate an appropriate Wilkes' stage. We compared findings made during arthroscopy with those at subsequent open operation in the same patient. Overall, arthroscopy had 87% sensitivity and 99% specificity in diagnosing disease in the TMJ, and it also accurately allocated the Wilkes' stage (sensitivity 94%, specificity 98%).

Article Synopsis
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) advanced arthroscopic debridement is a minimally invasive surgical procedure debated for its effectiveness in treating intra-articular pain and dysfunction associated with advanced TMJ degenerative disease.
  • The study aimed to assess if this procedure improves patients' pain and quality of life while identifying factors influencing these outcomes.
  • Conducted at the University of Michigan, the study analyzed 240 subjects over a minimum of three months, focusing on various preoperative and operative variables in relation to quality of life and pain reduction scores.

Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of modified temporomandibular joint disc reduction and suture with tragus incision assisted by arthroscopy for temporomandibular joint anterior disc displacement (ADD).

Methods: A clinical data of 30 patients (45 sides) with temporomandibular joint ADD, who met selective criteria and were admitted between September 2022 and February 2024, was retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 15 patients (23 sides) were treated with temporomandibular joint disc reduction and suture via small incision (open operation group), and 15 patients (22 sides) with modified temporomandibular joint disc reduction and suture with tragus incision assisted by arthroscopy (arthroscopy group).

Glioblastoma (GBM) is a highly aggressive primary brain tumor that carries a grim prognosis. Because of the dearth of treatment options available for treatment of GBM, Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR)-engineered T cell and Natural Killer (NK) therapy could provide alternative strategies to address the challenges in GBM treatment. In these approaches, CAR T and NK cells are engineered for cancer-specific immunotherapy by recognizing surface antigens independently of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules.

Objective: The study compared the effectiveness of radiofrequency and electrocautery techniques in TMJ arthroscopic surgeries by evaluating changes in pain levels and maximal incisal opening before surgery and throughout a 30-day postoperative period.

Materials And Methods: This prospective, randomized controlled trial included 62 patients with bilateral TMJ disorders classified as Wilkes stages III and IV. Patients were randomly assigned to two groups: Group 1 (n = 31) underwent arthroscopy with electrocautery, and Group 2 (n = 31) received radiofrequency ablation.
