Efficient and cost-effective multiplexed detection schemes for proteins in small liquid samples would bring drastic advances to fields like disease detection or water quality monitoring. We present a novel multiplexed sensor with randomly deposited aptamer functionalized gold nanorods. The spectral position of plasmon resonances of individual nanorods, monitored by dark-field spectroscopy, respond specifically to different proteins. We demonstrate nanomolar sensitivity, sensor recycling, and the potential to upscale to hundreds or thousands of targets.

Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)-based biodetection systems have emerged as powerful tools for real-time, label-free biomolecular interaction analysis, revolutionizing fields such as diagnostics, drug discovery, and environmental monitoring. This review highlights the foundational principles of SPR, focusing on the interplay of evanescent waves and surface plasmons that underpin its high sensitivity and specificity. Recent advancements in SPR technology, including enhancements in sensor chip materials, integration with nanostructures, and coupling with complementary detection techniques, are discussed to showcase their role in improving analytical performance.

Optical computing, renowned for its light-speed processing and low power consumption, typically relies on the coherent control of two light sources. However, there are challenges in stabilizing and maintaining high optical spatiotemporal coherence, especially for large-scale computing systems. The coherence requires rigorous feedback circuits and numerous phase shifters, introducing system instability and complexity.

Analyzing the cell interface is of paramount importance in understanding how cells interact and communicate with other cells, but an advanced analytical platform that can process complex and networked interactions between cell surface ligands and receptors is lacking. Herein, we developed the cell-interface-deciphering lipid nanotablet (CID-LNT) for multiplexed real-time cell analysis. LNT is a nanoparticle-tethered lipid bilayer chip where freely diffusing plasmonic nanoparticles induce scattering signal changes.

Molecular diagnosis limitations, including complex treatment processes, low cost-effectiveness, and operator-dependent low reproducibility, interrupt the timely prevention of disease spread and the development of medical devices for home and outdoor uses. A newly fabricated gold nanopillar array-based film is presented for superior photothermal energy conversion. Magnifying the metal film surface-to-volume ratio increases the photothermal energy conversion efficiency, resulting in a swift reduction in the gene amplification reaction time.

Interference of surface plasmons has been widely utilized in optical metrology for applications such as high-precision sensing. In this paper, we introduce a surface plasmon interferometer with the potential to be arranged in arrays for parallel multiplexing applications. The interferometer features two grating couplers that excite surface plasmon polariton (SPP) waves traveling along a gold-air interface before converging at a gold nanoslit where they interfere.
