Background: Telemedicine has been utilized in the care of patients with COVID-19, allowing real-time remote monitoring of vital signs. This technology reduces the risk of transmission while providing high-quality care to both self-quarantined patients with mild symptoms and critically ill patients in hospitals.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the application of telemedicine technology in the care of patients with COVID-19, specifically focusing on usability, effectiveness, and patient outcomes in both home isolation and hospital ward settings.

Article Synopsis
  • The increasing use of connected devices in smart homes has heightened security risks, particularly from Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) attacks, which can go undetected.
  • Traditional security methods struggle to manage these complex threats, highlighting the need for more advanced intrusion detection systems.
  • The AEXB Model, a hybrid deep learning approach combining AutoEncoder for feature extraction and XGBoost for classification, achieves 97.24% accuracy in detecting MitM attacks, while also enabling real-time threat responses and continuous protection.

Secure IoT data dissemination with blockchain and transfer learning techniques.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Torrens University Australia, Fortitude Valley, QLD 4006, Leaders Institute, 76 Park Road, Woolloongabba, QLD 4102, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Article Synopsis
  • Streaming IoT data is crucial for building trust in sustainable IoT solutions, but current systems often face issues with reliability, security, and transparency due to their centralized structures.
  • The research introduces TraVel, a framework that uses blockchain and transfer learning to improve the security of IoT data management, utilizing decentralized IPFS for data storage and a private Ethereum blockchain for enhanced data integrity.
  • TraVel implements self-executing smart contracts for access control and uses an adversarial domain adaptation model to filter out malicious data, ensuring only validated data is stored, with successful performance shown in simulations.

Empowering People with Disabilities in Smart Homes Using Predictive Informing.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2025

University of Zagreb, Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Vukelićeva 4, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia.

The possibilities of the Ambient Assisted Living (AAL)/Enhanced Living Environments (ELE) concept in the environment of a smart home were investigated to improve accessibility and improve the quality of life of a person with disabilities. This paper focuses on the concept of predictive information for a person with disabilities in a smart home environment concept where artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) systems use data on the user's preferences, habits, and possible incident situations. A conceptual mathematical model is proposed, the purpose of which is to provide predictive user information from defined data sets.

Human Occupancy Monitoring and Positioning with Speed-Responsive Adaptive Sliding Window Using an Infrared Thermal Array Sensor.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Computer and Information Systems, The University of Aizu, Aizuwakamatsu 965-8580, Fukushima, Japan.

In the current era of advanced IoT technology, human occupancy monitoring and positioning technology is widely used in various scenarios. For example, it can optimize passenger flow in public transportation systems, enhance safety in large shopping malls, and adjust smart home devices based on the location and number of occupants for energy savings. Additionally, in homes requiring special care, it can provide timely assistance.
