It has been realized throughout the years that an ideal combination of high toughness, hardness and strength is required in many engineering applications that need load-bearing capabilities. Ceramics and related materials have significant constraints for structural and particular non-structural applications due to their low toughness and limited strength while having substantially superior hardness than typical metallic materials. For example, hydroxyapatite (HAp) has gained attention for applications in orthopaedic implants, dental materials, drug delivery, etc.

Communication behavior recognition using CNN-based signal analysis.

PeerJ Comput Sci

May 2024

Jiaxing Communication Information Security Control Laboratory, Technology Research Institute, Anhui, China.

This article explores the technology of recognizing non-cooperative communication behavior, with a specific emphasis on analyzing communication station signals. Conventional techniques for analyzing signal data frames to determine their identity, while precise, do not have the ability to operate in real-time. In order to tackle this issue, we developed a pragmatic architecture for recognizing communication behavior and a system based on polling.

This paper provides a study of the different alternatives that are being considered in the 5G-ROUTES project to establish seamless 5G connectivity in a maritime environment both from an architectural point of view and also from the definition of field trials to evaluate the performance and dependability of the proposed solution. As expected, the main challenge in providing 5G connectivity on the sea is to provide coverage over large areas of open water. Thus, as a starting point, this paper presents a measurement campaign that was conducted to assess the current coverage in the Baltic Sea, which concluded that the current terrestrial networks cannot guarantee sufficient coverage.

A secure and dependable trust assessment (SDTS) scheme for industrial communication networks.

Sci Rep

February 2023

Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, National Defence University of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Due to tamper-resistant sensor nodes and wireless media, Industrial Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are susceptible to various security threats that severely affect industrial/business applications. The survival of sensor networks is highly dependent on the flourishing collaboration of sensor nodes. Trust management schemes seem to be realistic and promising techniques to improve security as well as cooperation (dependability) among sensor nodes by estimating the trust level (score) of individual sensor nodes.

Spherical fuzzy sets (SFSs) have gained great attention from researchers in various fields. The spherical fuzzy set is characterized by three membership functions expressing the degrees of membership, non-membership and the indeterminacy to provide a larger preference domain. It was proposed as a generalization of picture fuzzy sets and Pythagorean fuzzy sets in order to deal with uncertainty and vagueness information.
