This review aimed to explore the experiences of mobile telepresence robots (MTRs) among older adults (OAs) using a systematic mixed-studies approach. Ten electronic databases were searched for published and unpublished studies from inception to January 2022. The mixed methods assessment tool was used to assess the quality of the studies.

Population aging and pandemics have been shown to cause the isolation of elderly people in their houses, generating the need for a reliable assistive figure. Robotic assistants are the new frontier of innovation for domestic welfare, and elderly monitoring is one of the services a robot can handle for collective well-being. Despite these emerging needs, in the actual landscape of robotic assistants, there are no platforms that successfully combine reliable mobility in cluttered domestic spaces with lightweight and offline Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions for perception and interaction.

We demonstrate that Mobile Remote Presence systems (MRP) aka telepresence robots can be successfully used in certain types of medical consultation such as consultation from a distance with residents of nursing homes. We argue that MRP afforded media richness also allows for supporting social connectedness during medically recommended isolation regimes similar to the ones that are implemented in residential care homes around the world during the SARS-CoVID-2 pandemic. Specifically, our research found that MRP are perceived as a more natural medium compared to typical telephones or videoconferencing via computers or tablets.

Objectives: Limited resources and the diminishing physician workforce in trauma require unique and innovative solutions. Our hypothesis is that telepresence by a remote physician is an appropriate application in an urban trauma setting. The purpose of this study is to assess user satisfaction and usability of a mobile telemedicine robot in trauma care.
