The nutritional status of fish is essential for its health, experimental studies, and aquaculture practices. The current study investigated the impact of food deprivation on biochemical parameters, histology of skin, gill, and kidney tissues, and ultrastructure of gills in Clarias batrachus. Fish were subjected to food deprivation for 2, 7, and 15 days resulting in (a) significant increase in plasma cortisol levels, (b) no significant changes in plasma osmolality and plasma glucose content, and (c) significant decrease in liver and muscle glycogen contents.

Understanding vibrissal transduction has advanced by serial sectioning and identified afferent recordings, but afferent mapping onto the complex, encapsulated follicle remains unclear. Here, we reveal male rat C2 vibrissa follicle innervation through synchrotron X-ray phase contrast tomograms. Morphological analysis identified 5% superficial, ~32 % unmyelinated and 63% myelinated deep vibrissal nerve axons.

Skin wound healing is a physiological process orchestrated by epithelial and mesenchymal cells able to restore tissue continuity by re-organizing themselves and the ECM. This research study aimed to develop an optimized in vitro experimental model of full-thickness skin, to address molecular and morphological modifications occurring in the re-epithelization and wound healing process. Wound healing starting events were investigated within an experimental window of 8 days at the molecular level by gene expression and immunofluorescence of key epidermal and dermal biomarkers.

Skin banks are valuable tools for the maintenance of biodiversity. The red-rumped agouti is a wild rodent of ecological importance in South America because it acts as a seed disperser, and skin banks could serve as alternatives to conserve genetic variability. Nevertheless, the most suitable skin region for forming these banks must still be determined to guarantee tissue quality after cryopreservation.
