Background: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a commonly performed bariatric procedure. Device-related morbidity is typically associated with the subcutaneous port or the band itself. Complications related to band tubing are unusual. Small bowel obstruction (SBO) after LAGB is a unique and serious complication; there is the potential of delayed diagnosis and the risk of closed-loop bowel obstruction. SBO secondary to internal hernia caused by band tubing is very rare, with only five cases reported in the literature.
Methods: In this article, we describe our experience and provide an illustrative video of a case of SBO related to band tubing. We also provide a detailed review of the few previously published case reports.
Results: Based on the common features of our case and other published case reports, we hypothesize some risk factors that might lead to this unique morbidity of adjustable gastric band tubing and provide potential solutions to prevent this problem.
Conclusion: Tubing-related SBO is a serious complication with the risk of closed-loop bowel obstruction. Urgent operative exploration is required to avoid bowel strangulation. To prevent recurrence we advise functionally shortening the tubing by tucking it to the right upper quadrant above the liver and also provide some omental coverage between the bowel and band tubing if possible.

Designing and discovering superior type-II band alignment are crucial for advancing optoelectronic device technologies. Here, we employ first-principles calculations to investigate the evolution of band edges in monolayer MoS, boron phosphide (BP), and MoS/BP heterostructures before and after their rolling into nanotubes. Our research results indicate that the intrinsic MoS/BP vertical heterostructures exhibit a type-II direct bandgap, but this feature is not robust under strain.

A new species of (Teleostei, Pomacentridae) is described from four specimens collected between 95 and 110 m depth in mesophotic coral ecosystems in the Maldives, Indian Ocean. can be distinguished from all of its congeners by the following combination of characters: dorsal-fin rays XIII, 12-13; anal-fin rays II,11-12; pectoral-fin rays 17-18; tubed lateral-line scales 17; gill rakers 7+17-18 = 24-25; pearly white body with a large black marking covering the anterior two-thirds of the anal fin. The closest DNA barcode sequence (5.

We confirm that the U-shaped nested tubes can better compress the fiber core compared with the circular and semi-circular nested tubes to further reduce the loss and improve the single polarization characteristics. The proposed optical fiber has an ultra-low loss of 0.

This study presents a comparative analysis of anodization and hydrothermal techniques for synthesizing TiO nanotubes directly on titanium foil. It emphasizes its advantages as a substrate due to its superior conductivity and efficient charge transfer. Optimized synthesis conditions enable a thorough evaluation of the resulting nanotubes' morphology, structure, and optical properties, ultimately assessing their photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic performances.
