Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) is one of the most studied nuclear receptor since its identification as a target to treat metabolic and neurological diseases. In addition to exerting anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects, PPAR-γ agonists, such as the insulin-sensitizing drug pioglitazone, promote the differentiation of oligodendrocytes (OLs), the myelin-forming cells of the central nervous system (CNS). In addition, PPAR-γ agonists increase OL mitochondrial respiratory chain activity and OL's ability to respond to environmental signals with oscillatory Ca2+ waves. Both OL maturation and oscillatory Ca2+ waves are prevented by the mitochondrial inhibitor rotenone and restored by PPAR-γ agonists, suggesting that PPAR-γ promotes myelination through mechanisms involving mitochondria.

Cholinergic tone is elevated in obstructive lung conditions such as COPD and asthma, but the cellular mechanisms underlying cholinergic contractions of airway smooth muscle (ASM) are still unclear. Some studies report an important role for L-type Ca channels (LTCC) and Ano1 Ca-activated Cl™ channels (CACC) in these responses, but others dispute their importance. Cholinergic contractions of ASM involve activation of M3Rs, however stimulation of M2Rs exerts a profound hypersensitisation of these responses.

We investigated oscillatory motion of a camphor disk floating on water containing 5 mM hexylethylenediaminium trifluoroacetate (HHexen-TFA) as an ionic liquid (IL). The frequency of the oscillatory motion increased with increasing concentrations of the transition metal ions Cu and Ni but was insensitive to Na, Ca, and Mg, the typical metal ions in the water phase. The surface tension of the water phase containing 5 mM HHexen-TFA also increased with increasing concentrations of Cu and Ni but was insensitive to Na, Ca, and Mg.

Extensive research has demonstrated that astrocytes actively participate in the regulation of synaptic communication. To examine the dynamic behavior of the model, a neuron-astrocyte model has been solved, and a bifurcation analysis has been performed. This paper uses the equilibrium point, stability theory, and the center manifold theorem to theoretically investigate the dynamical analysis of Ca oscillations in the cytosol.

Background: Disturbed flow generates oscillatory shear stress (OSS), which in turn leads to endothelial inflammation and atherosclerosis. Piezo1, a biomechanical force sensor, plays a crucial role in the cardiovascular system. However, the specific role of Piezo1 in atherosclerosis remains to be fully elucidated.

Background: Endothelial cell TRPV4 (transient receptor potential vanilloid 4) channels provide a control point that is pivotal in regulating blood vessel diameter by mediating the Ca-dependent release of endothelial-derived vasoactive factors. In hypertension, TRPV4-mediated control of vascular function is disrupted, but the underlying mechanisms and precise physiological consequences remain controversial.
Methods: Here, using a comprehensive array of methodologies, endothelial TRPV4 channel function was examined in intact mesenteric resistance arteries from normotensive Wistar-Kyoto and spontaneously hypertensive rats.
