Background: Several biomarkers or risk factors have been identified and several prediction models exist. The major limitations inherent in these models include cost-ineffectiveness and lack of systematic stratification of risk factors resulting in the inclusion of clinically insignificant biomarkers in the models. This review aimed to systematically stratify the risk factors of lung cancer-associated venous thromboembolism (VTE) and determine the critical point for preemptive intervention.

Background: MT-RNR1 variants are a well-known cause of aminoglycoside-induced hearing loss (AIHL). Individuals with cystic fibrosis (CF) routinely receive aminoglycosides and are at high risk of AIHL. However, genetic testing before treatment is not routinely performed due to perceived rarity of risk, and cost ineffectiveness with traditional technologies.

However, the negative aspects must also be highlighted and studied so that we can move forward with the use of these devices. These negative aspects include greater analytical imprecision compared to laboratory automation, the variability between different equipment from different manufacturers, the risk of inappropriate use, a low level of global regulation, higher costs compared with laboratory testing and cost ineffectiveness in terms of health care.
