Objective: To investigate the reason for and the course of the double-layer appearance in the postoperative computed tomographies (CTs) of chronic subdural hematoma (CSDHs).
Methods: We reviewed CSDH cases that were operated on during the last 3 years, between January 2008 and December 2010. We checked the preoperative, early postoperative, and late postoperative CTs of these patients. We investigated the relationship between the formation of a double-layer appearance and the prognoses and demographic characteristics of the patients.
Results: Our database included 119 cases. A double-layer appearance was found in the postoperative CTs of 34 cases. The mean age of double-layer cases was older (72.5 ± 12.1) than that of the remaining 85 cases (63.1 ± 17.8). We did not find any relationship between the double-layer appearance and the reoperation/recurrence/death rates.
Conclusions: The double-layer appearance after evacuation of a CSDH might be caused by enlargement of the subarachnoid space and is not related to the presence of any residual hematoma. This appearance is not considered as a reason for reoperation.

In this study, we developed a double-layer colon-targeted microcapsule. It used the Maillard product of gelatin-isomaltooligosaccharide (GI180) and zein-shellac complex (ZS) as bio-based materials, plant extracts (MPL) and Lactobacillus plantarum JJBYG12 (JJBYG12) were co-encapsulated, endowing them with strong resistance to harsh environments and precise intestinal adhesion and targeting ability. The research results indicated that ZS11 exhibits hydrogen bonding and electrostatic interactions.

Knowledge Gap: The aggregation of clay minerals in liquid water exemplifies colloidal self-assembly in nature. These negatively charged aluminosilicate platelets interact through multiple mechanisms with different sensitivities to particle shape, surface charge, aqueous chemistry, and interparticle distance and exhibit complex aggregation structures. Experiments have difficulty resolving the associated colloidal assemblages at the scale of individual particles.

The aim of this study was to reveal the mechanism of cold stimulation (CS)-bronchial epithelial cells (BECs) derived exosomes (CS-BECs-exo) aggravated sepsis induced acute lung injury (SALI). CS-BECs-exo were separated by differential centrifugation and were characterized. Proteomics, immunoprecipitation, and RAGE knockout (RAGE) mice were used to investigate the mechanism of CS-BECs-exo aggravated SALI.

The effective prevention and treatment of anastomotic leakage after intestinal anastomosis for colorectal diseases is still a major clinical challenge. In order to assist intestinal anastomosis healing and avoid anastomotic leakage caused by high tension, low blood supply or infection, we designed a double-layer nanofiber intestinal anastomosis scaffold, which was composed of electrospun PTMC/PHA nanofibers as the main layer, and electrospun PVA/OHA-Gs nanofibers with antibacterial properties as the antibacterial surface layer. This double-layer scaffold has good toughness, its maximum tensile force value could reach 8 N, elongation could reach 400 %, and it has hydrophilic properties, and its contact angle was about 60°.
