Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the VEGF, PIGF, and HIF-1α levels in the placentas of early- and late-onset pre-eclamptic patients, which are thought to be important in pathophysiology of pre-eclampsia.
Material And Method: Pre-eclamptic early-onset (n = 22) and late-onset (n = 24) pregnant women and a control group of healthy pregnant women (n = 22) were recruited for this case-control study. A semi-quantitative immunohistochemical analysis of VEGF, PIGF and HIF-1α was performed in cross-sections of the placentas of the subjects, after which results were compared.
Results: Levels of VEGF and PIGF in the placentas of pre-eclamptic patients were found to be lower than the levels in the placentas of healthy pregnant women (p < 0.001 and p = 0.025, respectively), whereas the levels of HIF-1α were found significantly higher (p < 0.001). No difference was observed in terms of VEGF, PIGF and HIF-1α in a comparison of the early- and late-onset pre-eclampsia groups (p > 0.05).
Conclusion: The results of the study indicated that there is no relationship between the time of onset of pre-eclampsia and the placental changes that occur in these factors.

Background Aims: The clinical translation of mesenchymal stromal cell secretome (MSC-S) has been challenging owing to a lack of appropriate methods in downstream processing. Dialysis is an age-old method of protein purification by the exchange of small molecules through a semi-permeable membrane. In this study, we investigated the potential of three forms of umbilical cord-derived MSC secretome (UC-MSC-S)-native (S), dialyzed (DS), and lyophilized (LDS)-for wound healing applications.

Introduction: ABP 938 is being developed as a biosimilar to Eylea (aflibercept reference product [RP]), an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drug used in the management of retinal diseases. Previously, a comparative analytical similarity assessment demonstrated that ABP 938 and aflibercept RP have the same amino acid sequence and exhibit similar higher-order structure and biological activity. The nonclinical studies described here were designed to assess the in vitro pharmacology and the in vivo pharmacokinetics (PK), toxicokinetics (TK), and safety profiles of ABP 938 compared to aflibercept RP.

AP collagen peptides (APCPs) are enzymatically decomposed collagen peptides that contain tri-peptides such as glycine-proline-hydroxyproline. We found that APCPs increased the proliferation of both human dermal papilla cells (hDPCs) and human outer root sheath cells (hORSCs). APCPs also stimulated the secretion of several growth factors, including IGFBP-6, PDGF-AB, PIGF and VEGF in hDPCs.

Background: This study was conducted to compare concentrations of VEGF family growth factors, inflammation-related factors, and adhesion molecules in the aqueous humor of eyes with diabetic macular edema (DME), with and without prior vitrectomy.
Methods: A total of 31 eyes were included, 11 with DME that had undergone vitrectomy, 9 with DME but without vitrectomy, and 11 from age-related cataract patients as controls. The concentrations of cytokines including TNF-α, IL-6, IL-8, IP-10, MCP-1, IFN-γ, MIP-1 α, MIP-1 β, PECAM-1, MIF, VCAM-1, ICAM-1, PIGF were quantified using Luminex Human Discovery Assay.
Purpose: Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy-related complication. Eucommia is effective in the treatment of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, but the specific effects and possible mechanisms of Eucommia granules (EG) in PE remain unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects and possible mechanisms of EG in PE rats.
