Bilateral differences in lower-limb strength in people with multiple sclerosis (MS) have been clinically observed. The objectives of this study were to quantify bilateral differences in lower-limb performance and metabolism during exercise. Eight ambulatory individuals with mild MS with an Expanded Disability Status Scale score of 2.6 +/- 1.6 and seven non-MS controls completed bilateral assessments of muscle strength and incremental cycling. Individuals with MS had significant (p < 0.05) between-leg differences in leg strength (strong leg: 43.3 +/- 12.7 kg vs weak leg: 37.7 +/- 15.2 kg), peak oxygen uptake (strong leg: 13.7 +/- 3.2 mL/kg/min vs weak leg: 10.6 +/- 3.0 mL/kg/min), and peak workload (strong leg: 73.4 +/- 22.3 W vs weak leg: 56.3 +/- 26.2 W). No between-leg differences were found in controls (p > 0.05). As anticipated, individuals with MS exhibited significantly greater asymmetry for strength, oxygen uptake, and workload than controls (p < 0.05). The differences between legs varied from 2% to 30% for maximal strength and 4% to 66% for cycling workload in the MS group and 4% to 24% and 0% to 8% for the control group, respectively. Preliminary evidence suggests that the magnitude of differences may be related to limitations in aerobic function.

Introduction: This study compared the clinical outcomes of allogenic cultured limbal epithelial transplantation (ACLET) and cultivated oral mucosal epithelial transplantation (COMET) in the management of limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD).
Methods: Forty-one COMET procedures in 40 eyes and 69 ACLET procedures in 54 eyes were performed in the Corneoplastic Unit of Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead. Data were examined for demographics, indications, ocular surface stability, absence of epithelial defect, ocular surface inflammation, visual outcomes, and intra- and postoperative complications.

Objective: To study the biomechanical changes induced by differences in perioral force in patients with missing anterior maxillary teeth at rest via finite element analysis (FEA).
Methods: Using conical beam CT (CBCT) images of a healthy person, models of the complete maxillary anterior dental region (Model A) and maxillary anterior dental region with a missing left maxillary central incisor (Model B) were constructed. The labial and palatine alveolar bone and tooth surface of the bilateral incisor and cusp regions were selected as the application sites, the resting perioral force was applied perpendicular to the tissue surface, and the changes in maxillary stress and displacement after the perioral force was simulated were analyzed.

Background: During infant aortic arch reconstruction, traditional electroencephalography (EEG) provides only qualitative data limiting neuromonitoring efficacy. Interhemispheric differences in the alpha:delta ratio (ADR) and suppression ratio (SR) measured using quantitative EEG generate numerical trends that may suggest cerebral ischemia. We hypothesized that the ADR and SR during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) would correlate with hemodynamics, and that ADR and SR interhemispheric differences would precede neurological injury from infants requiring aortic arch reconstruction.
