Designing and Testing an IoT Low-Cost PPP-RTK Augmented GNSS Location Device.

Sensors (Basel)

January 2024

Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, University of Naples Federico II, 80125 Naples, Italy.

Nowadays, the availability of affordable multi-constellation multi-frequency receivers has broadened access to accurate positioning. The abundance of satellite signals coupled with the implementation of ground- and satellite-based correction services has unlocked the potential for achieving real-time centimetre-level positioning with low-cost instrumentation. Most of the current and future applications cannot exploit well-consolidated satellite positioning techniques such as Network Real Time Kinematic (RTK) and Precise Point Positioning (PPP); the former is inapplicable for large user bases due to the necessity of a two-way communication link between the user and the NRTK service provider, while the latter necessitates long convergence times that are not in keeping with kinematic application.

5G Positioning: An Analysis of Early Datasets.

Sensors (Basel)

November 2023

DICA Politecnico di Milano, Piazza Leonardo Da Vinci 32, 20133 Milano, Italy.

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs) are nowadays the prevailing technology for positioning and navigation. However, with the roll-out of 5G technology, there is a shift towards 'hybrid positioning': indeed, 5G time-of-arrival () measurements can provide additional ranging for positioning, especially in environments where few GNSS satellites are visible. This work reports a preliminary analysis, the processing, and the results of field measurements collected as part of the GINTO5G project funded by ESA's EGEP programme.

How to measure vessel caliber in microsurgery and super-microsurgery? Metrological study of three methods applicable in clinical practice.

J Plast Reconstr Aesthet Surg

Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgery Unit, Nantes University Hospital, 1 Place Alexis Ricordeau, 44000 Nantes, France; INSERM, UMRS 1229, Laboratory Regenerative Medicine and Skeleton (RMeS), Place Alexis Ricordeau, 44000 Nantes, France.

Introduction: The microsurgical literature reports the vascular calibers of the vessels studied even though the method of measurement of these vessels is very rarely reported.

Material And Method: We performed a metrological study evaluating three methods to measure the external calibers of catheters corresponding to microsurgical and super-microsurgical vessels (1.2 mm, 0.

Global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) and ultra-wideband (UWB) ranging are two central research topics in the field of positioning and navigation. In this study, a GNSS/UWB fusion method is investigated in GNSS-challenged environments or for the transition between outdoor and indoor environments. UWB augments the GNSS positioning solution in these environments.

The decrease in costs and dimensions of GNSS receivers has enabled their adoption for a very wide range of users. Formerly mediocre positioning performance is benefiting from recent technology advances, namely the adoption of multi-constellation, multi-frequency receivers. In our study, we evaluate signal characteristics and horizontal accuracies achievable with two low-cost receivers-a Google Pixel 5 smartphone and a u-Blox ZED F9P standalone receiver.
