In this paper, a novel triethylene-tetramine grafted magnetic chitosan was synthesized. The chemical structure and the percentage content of each element of chitosan and its derivatives were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, solid state (13)C NMR, X-ray diffraction analysis and thermogravimetric analysis, respectively. Their surface topography was observed by the transmission electron microscope. The results of adsorption kinetics and adsorption thermodynamics showed the adsorption mechanism could be better described by the pseudo-second-order equation (R>0.999). The adsorption isotherm was well fitted by the Langmuir equation (R>0.999), and 0

Autophagy inducers can prevent cardiovascular aging and age-associated diseases including atherosclerosis. Therefore, we hypothesized that autophagy-inducing compounds that act on atherosclerosis-relevant cells might have a protective role in the development of atherosclerosis. Here we identified 3,4-dimethoxychalcone (3,4-DC) as an inducer of autophagy in several cell lines from endothelial, myocardial and myeloid/macrophagic origin, as demonstrated by the aggregation of the autophagosome marker GFP-LC3 in the cytoplasm of cells, as well as the downregulation of its nuclear pool indicative of autophagic flux.

A series of novel anti-corrosive coatings were synthesized successfully. Water-borne polyurethane (WPU) was synthesized using polyethylene glycol and modified by grafting benzotriazole (BTA) as a pendant group (WPU-g-BTA) and N-alkylated amines (ethylene diamine (A), diethylene triamine (B), triethylene tetramine (C)) as side-chain extenders. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, and dynamic mechanical analyses were used to characterize the structural and thermomechanical properties of the samples.

Graphene aerogel (GA) is a lightweight, porous, environmentally friendly, 3D structured material with interesting properties, such as electrical conductivity, a high surface area, and chemical stability, which make it a powerful tool in energy storage, sensing, catalyst support, or environmental applications. However, the poor mechanical stability that often characterizes graphene aerogels is a serious obstacle for their use in such applications. Therefore, we report here the successful mechanical reinforcement of GA with carbon fibers (CFs) by combining reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and CFs in a composite material.

This article describes the synthesis and application of a novel sorbent for Cr(III) and Cr(VI) speciation prior to their quantitation by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. The sorbent consists of polystyrene-divinyl benzene microbeads that were graft-coated with poly(oligo (ethylene glycol) methacrylate)-block-poly(glycidyl methacrylate). The particles were finally modified with phosphomethylated triethylene tetramine.

Amine groups play significant roles in polymeric composites for heavy metals removal. However, generating a composite with a large number of functional and stable amine groups based on clay is still a challenge. In this work, a new amine-functionalized adsorbent based on acid-activated vermiculite (a-Verm) was prepared by organic modification of silane coupling agent as bridge, followed by in situ polymerization of acrylamide (AM) and further grafting of triethylene tetramine (TETA).
