What drives farmers' behavior under climate change? Decoding risk awareness, perceived impacts, and adaptive capacity in northern Italy.

Heliyon

January 2025

Environmental Intelligence for Global Change Lab, Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano, Via Ponzio 34/5, 20133, Milan, Italy.

Understanding climate change in a precise and timely manner may assist in gauging the occurrence and seriousness of its impacts, thereby boosting the adaptive capacity and responsiveness of farmers. This investigation looks into farmers' knowledge of climate change, their perception of risks and impacts, and the strategies they anticipate to tackle the challenges of adaptation. A well-structured online survey covering risk awareness, perception, and adaptation was used to randomly sample 460 respondents from 12 irrigation districts in northern Italy.

Purpose: Optimizing fracture reduction quality is key to achieve successful osteosynthesis, especially for epimetaphyseal regions such as the proximal humerus (PH), but can be challenging, partly due to the lack of a clear endpoint. We aimed to develop the prototype for a novel intraoperative C-arm-based aid to facilitate true anatomical reduction of fractures of the PH.

Methods: The proposed method designates the reduced endpoint position of fragments by superimposing the outer boundary of the premorbid bone shape on intraoperative C-arm images, taking the mirrored intact contralateral PH from the preoperative CT scan as a surrogate.

Introduction to the special issue: A festschrift for Janice Kiecolt-Glaser - At the origin of stress and immunity.

Compr Psychoneuroendocrinol

November 2024

Department of Psychological Sciences, Rice University, Houston, TX, USA.

This special issue of pays tribute to Janice Kiecolt-Glaser's groundbreaking career and marks her well-earned retirement. As a leader in human psychoneuroimmunology (PNI), Kiecolt-Glaser transformed the domain by showing that everyday stressors, along with significant life events, can significantly affect the immune system. Her groundbreaking research on informal dementia caregivers revealed the detrimental effects of chronic psychological stress, including delayed wound healing, virus reactivation, heightened proinflammatory cytokine levels, and weakened vaccine responses.

Effect of Temperature and Stress on Creep Behavior of (TiB + TiC + YO)/α-Ti Composite.

Materials (Basel)

December 2024

National Key Laboratory for Precision Hot Processing of Metals, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin 150001, China.

In this study, a (TiB + TiC + YO)/α-Ti composite was prepared by induction skull melting to investigate its creep behavior and microstructure evolution under different temperatures and stresses. The results show that the microstructure of the composite in the as-cast state is a basket-weave structure, and the main phase composition is α lamella, containing a small amount of β phase and equiaxed α phase. The creep life of the composite decreases significantly when the temperature is increased from 650 °C to 700 °C, and the steady-state creep rate is increased by 1 to 2 orders of magnitude.
