Improving the accuracy of optical rotation measurement based on optical null methods by curve-fitting.

An optical rotation measuring system using optical null methods is set up. The system is based on a step-motor rotating stage structure and a modulated laser, which both are controlled by digital signal processor. By introducing a curve-fitting method, the optical rotation angle is obtained from the step difference between the crossed positions in light signal curves with or without sample. The principle of this method is studied, and the system performance is investigated experimentally. We achieved an accuracy of the order of 10(-3) degree in at least ±45° range, which is an improvement compared with the resolution of 0.01° for step-motor rotation stage.

Chirality plays a crucial role in the pharmacological activity of triazoles, a key scaffold in antifungal agents and various therapeutic applications. This study focuses on optimizing the enantiomeric resolution of chiral triazoles using supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and 10 different columns, either immobilized or coated, chlorinated or nonchlorinated, cellulose or amylose-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs). Four novel triazoles and two marketed ones (tebuconazole and hexaconazole) were separated to determine optimal resolution conditions.

Imaging the entire cardiomyocyte network in entire small animal hearts at single cell resolution is a formidable challenge. Optical microscopy provides sufficient contrast and resolution in 2d, however fails to deliver non-destructive 3d reconstructions with isotropic resolution. Methods: 35 healthy volunteers and 27 patients with isolated PCLD (both involved and uninvolved sides) were included in the study.

Persistent hypotony following Tanito microhook trabeculotomy (TMH) is rare but may occur due to the development of cyclodialysis clefts. We report a case of a Japanese man in his 40s who developed persistent hypotony and hypotony maculopathy after TMH in the left eye. Fourteen months after the surgery, the patient was referred to our institution due to prolonged hypotony that remained undiagnosed and untreated despite evaluations with gonioscopy and anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) at the referring clinic.
