Prosthodontic rehabilitation of maxillary defects and early loading of endosseous implants has been widely published. The combination of the aforementioned treatment modalities are seldom reported in peer reviewed journals. This article describes the clinical presentation, management and prosthodontic rehabilitation of the maxillary defect of a patient. Clinical and scientific concerns are discussed.

An open question in epidemiology is why transmission is often overdispersed, meaning that most new infections are driven by few infected individuals. For example, around 10% of COVID-19 cases cause 80% of new COVID-19 cases. This overdispersion in parasite transmission is likely driven by intrinsic heterogeneity among hosts, i.

Thromboxane A (TXA), a prothrombotic factor that induces platelet aggregation and thrombosis, acts as a vasoconstrictor by activating TXA receptors (TP receptors). TXA is extremely unstable and metabolizes into three major metabolites: 2,3-dinor thromboxane B (2,3-dinor-TXB), 11-dehydro TXB(11-dh-TXB), and 11-dehydro-2,3-dinor TXB(11-dh-2,3-dinor-TXB). 8-Iso-prostaglandin F(8-iso-PGF), a prostaglandin-like compound widely considered the best biomarker of oxidative stress, can also activate TP receptors.

Seismic versus aseismic slip for the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake doublet.

Nat Commun

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Precision Geodesy, Innovation Academy for Precision Measurement Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan, China.

Interplay between seismic and aseismic slip could shed light on the frictional properties and seismic potential of faults. The well-recorded 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquake doublet provides an excellent opportunity to understand their partitioning on strike-slip faults. Here, we utilize InSAR and strong motion data to derive the coseismic rupture during the doublet, ~4-month postseismic afterslip, and slip distributions of two Mw>6.

Tissue Perfusion and Biomarkers Assessment Following Root Coverage Procedures.

J Periodontal Res

January 2025

Division of Periodontology, Department of Oral Medicine, Infection, and Immunity, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Aim: To assess tissue perfusion changes and wound healing biomarker levels after root coverage procedures with coronally advanced flap in combination with the cross-linked xenogeneic collagen matrix (CCMX), loaded either with a placebo or recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor-BB (rhPDGF).

Methods: This study was designed as a secondary analysis from a previously published clinical trial, and it assessed the tissue perfusion changes over 6 months around multiple gingival recession defects, treated with either with CCMX alone (control) or with CCMX + rhPDGF (test). High frequency Doppler ultrasonography (HFUS) scans were obtained at sites of interest at baseline, 2 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months after surgery.

Thermoresponsive dual-network chitosan-based hydrogels with demineralized bone matrix for controlled release of rhBMP9 in the treatment of femoral head osteonecrosis.

Carbohydr Polym

March 2025

Key Lab of Modern Toxicology of Ministry of Education, Center for Global Health, School of Public Health, Nanjing Medical University, 101 Longmian Avenue, Nanjing 211166, China. Electronic address:

In an effort to mitigate or reverse the pathological progression of early-stage osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH), this study employed a promising strategy that involves the sustained delivery of osteogenic factors to augment core decompression, facilitated by the use of composite hydrogels. Specifically, a hydrogel was synthesized by blending chitosan, Pluronic F-127, and tripolyphosphate, utilizing both ionic bonding and copolymer micelle cross-linking techniques. This hydrogel demonstrated exceptional biocompatibility, temperature responsiveness, pH-dependent biodegradation, and controlled release properties.
