One-dimensional (1D) functional nanowires are widely used as nanoscale building blocks for assembling advanced nanodevices due to their unique functionalities. However, previous research has mainly focused on nanowire functionality, while neglecting the structural stability and damage resistance of nanowire assemblies, which are critical for the long-term operation of nanodevices. Biomaterials achieve excellent mechanical stability and damage resistance through sophisticated structural design.

A classical crystallization usually grows epitaxially from a crystal nucleus. Presented in this study is an unusual endotaxy growth manner of a crystalline homopolymer to form hexagonal nanosheets. The amphiphilic homopolymer, poly(3-(4-(phenyldiazenyl)phenoxy)propyl methacrylate) (PAzoPMA), is first annealed in isopropanol to afford a hexagonal nut-like structure.

The structural characteristics of electrode materials play a crucial role in their potential applications. Therefore, designing the material's structure rationally is one of the most effective methods to achieve high-performance electrodes. In this study, V-ZnCoO nanowires were synthesized on nickel foam using a simple hydrothermal method, and the prepared V-ZnCoO-2 electrode material exhibited a specific capacitance of 1621 C g.

Hydrogen Production and Li-Ion Battery Performance with MoS-SiNWs-SWNTs@ZnONPs Nanocomposites.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

November 2024

Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales Nicolás Cabrera, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 28049 Madrid, Spain.

This study explores the hydrogen generation potential via water-splitting reactions under UV-vis radiation by using a synergistic assembly of ZnO nanoparticles integrated with MoS, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), and crystalline silicon nanowires (SiNWs) to create the MoS-SiNWs-SWNTs@ZnONPs nanocomposites. A comparative analysis of MoS synthesized through chemical and physical exfoliation methods revealed that the chemically exfoliated MoS exhibited superior performance, thereby being selected for all subsequent measurements. The nanostructured materials demonstrated exceptional surface characteristics, with specific surface areas exceeding 300 m g.

Growth and properties of hybrid Au-CoNinanowires embedded in SrTiO/SrTiO(001).

Nanotechnology

December 2024

Sorbonne Université, CNRS, Institut des NanoSciences de Paris, INSP, UMR7588, F-75005 Paris, France.

We present a sequential growth scheme based on pulsed laser deposition, which yields dense arrays of ultrathin, match-shaped Au/CoNi nanopillars, vertically embedded in SrTiOthin films. Analysis of the magnetic properties of these nanocomposites reveals a pronounced out-of-plane anisotropy. We show that the latter not only results from the peculiar nanoarchitecture of the hybrid films but is further enhanced by strong magneto-structural coupling of the wires to the surrounding matrix.
