Research indicates that single checking of medications is as safe as double checking; however, many nurses are averse to independently checking medications. To assist with the introduction and use of single checking, a measure of nurses' attitudes, the thirteen-item Single Checking Administration of Medications Scale (SCAMS) was developed. We examined the psychometric properties of the SCAMS. Secondary analyses were conducted on data collected from 503 nurses across a large Australian health-care service. Analyses using exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported by structural equation modelling resulted in a valid twelve-item SCAMS containing two reliable subscales, the nine-item Attitudes towards single checking and three-item Advantages of single checking subscales. The SCAMS is recommended as a valid and reliable measure for monitoring nurses' attitudes to single checking prior to introducing single checking medications and after its implementation.

Whole-genome sequencing identified ALK as a novel susceptible gene of Hirschsprung disease.

Arab J Gastroenterol

Department of Pediatric Surgery, Tongji Medical College, Union Hospital, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430015, China.

Background And Study Aims: Hirschsprung disease (HD) is a complex developmental disease that resulted from impaired proliferation and migration of neural crest cells. Despite the genetic causation of enteric nervous system have been found to be responsible for part of HD cases, the genetic aetiology of most HD patients still needs to be explored.

Patients And Methods: Whole-genome sequencing and subsequent Sanger sequencing validation analysis were performed in 13 HD children and their unaffected parents.

Objective: Differing from the overall consumption of alcohol, whether consuming large quantities of alcohol per drinking occasion is associated with higher risk of developing severe diabetic retinopathy remains unknown.

Methods: We examined whether the quantity per drinking occasion (QPO), including a large QPO, and the combinations of the frequency of alcohol consumption (FAC) and QPO were associated with higher risk of developing severe diabetic retinopathy or diabetic macular edema (DME) using adjusted Cox models. Severe diabetic retinopathy or DME was designated as a vision-threatening treatment-required diabetic eye disease (TRDED).

Introductory Analysis and Validation of CUT&RUN Sequencing Data.

The CUT&RUN technique facilitates detection of protein-DNA interactions across the genome. Typical applications of CUT&RUN include profiling changes in histone tail modifications or mapping transcription factor chromatin occupancy. Widespread adoption of CUT&RUN is driven, in part, by technical advantages over conventional ChIP-seq that include lower cell input requirements, lower sequencing depth requirements, and increased sensitivity with reduced background signal due to a lack of cross-linking agents that otherwise mask antibody epitopes.
