A direct ELISA was established for the fast detection of semicarbazide (SEM) using a novel biotin derivative. Without a tedious extraction procedure, as low as 0.07 μg L(-1) of SEM could be detected reproducibly. This assay has better recovery and accuracy than competitive ELISA.

Semicarbazide (SEM) is commonly utilized as a biomarker for detecting the usage of nitrofurazone (NFZ); however, its endogenous presence in aquatic products complicates detection and poses challenges to the quality and safety of these products. Although previous research suggests a potential link between SEM and urea, the specific mechanisms underlying its production under induced conditions remain unclear. To solve the above problem, the integrated metabolomic and transcriptomic analyses were performed for systematically exploring endogenous production mechanisms underlying SEM in under urea conditions.

Azodicarbonamide (ADA) in flour products is easily converted to semicarbazide which greatly threatens human health. Herein, a long-lasting chemiluminescence (CL)-based biosensor was developed for quantitative point-of-care testing (POCT) of ADA. The threonine (Thr)-functionalized Cu-hemin MOFs (Cu-hemin@Thr) could induce persistent CL of luminol with excellent stability.

This paper presents the synthesis of the ligand 1-picolinoyl-4-cyclohexyl-3-thiosemicarbazide (Hpctc) and new metal complexes [Ni(Hpctc)] (), [Cu(Hpctc)Cl] (), and [Cd(Hpctc)] (). The synthesized metal complexes were precisely characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD). In addition, complexes - were also characterized by UV-vis, fluorescence, and infrared spectroscopy.

The antiproliferative and antibacterial activities of thiosemicarbazones increase markedly with the presence of metal ions. One of the factors determining the activity of metal thiosemicarbazone complexes is the coordination structure. In this study, the biological effects of new antimony (III) and bismuth (III) thiosemicarbazone complexes with different binding modes and geometrical structures were demonstrated.

Nitrofurazone (NFZ) antibiotic is banned in food-producing animals, and its metabolite, semicarbazide (SEM), is used as a marker residue for nitrofurazone abuse. However, SEM can also be generated during food processing without veterinary treatment. Therefore, SEM cannot be considered an unequivocal marker of NFZ.
