The inhibitory activity of isoferulic acid (IFA) on fructose- and glucose-mediated protein glycation and oxidation of bovine serum albumin (BSA) was investigated. Our data showed that IFA (1.25-5 mM) inhibited the formation of fluorescent advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and non-fluorescent AGE [Nε-(carboxymethyl) lysine: CML], as well as the level of fructosamine. IFA also prevented protein oxidation of BSA indicated by decreasing protein carbonyl formation and protein thiol modification. Furthermore, IFA suppressed the formation of β-cross amyloid structures of BSA. Therefore, IFA might be a new promising anti-glycation agent for the prevention of diabetic complications via inhibition of AGEs formation and oxidation-dependent protein damage.

Isoferulic acid (IA), a derivative of cinnamic acid, is derived from Danshen and exhibits anticancer properties by disrupting cancer cell activities. However, its role in pancreatic cancer, the "king of cancer", was unknown. In this study, pancreatic cancer cells were subjected to treatment with IA (6.

Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKP) poses an alarming threat in clinical settings and global public health owing to its high pathogenicity, epidemic success and rapid development of drug resistance, especially the emergence of carbapenem-resistant lineages (CR-hvKP). With the decline of the "last resort" antibiotic class and the decreasing efficacy of first-line antibiotics, innovative alternative therapeutics are urgently needed. Capsule, an essential virulence determinant, is a major cause of the enhanced pathogenicity of hvKP and thus represents an attractive drug target to prevent the devastating clinical outcomes caused by hvKP infection.

Objective: The main objective of this study was to elucidate the effector material basis of Cimicifugae Rhizoma (CR) for the treatment of acute pneumonia (AP) and to explore the potential mechanisms underlying the anti-AP effects of these active components in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation model of lung epithelial cells.
Methods: Chemical components were identified using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-TOF-MS), and a CR component library was subsequently established based on a combination of databases and available literature. Bioinformatics techniques were used to construct "component-target" and "protein-protein interaction (PPI)" networks, and the potential active components and core targets screened according to degree value, followed by molecular docking and in vitro experiments for verification.

Background: Jujube is a homologous herb of medicine and food, and polyphenols are key in determining the functional effects of jujubes.
Methods: In this study, characteristic polyphenols in 15 varieties of Chinese jujubes were investigated based on untargeted metabolomics.
Results: The results showed that a total of 79 characteristic polyphenols were identified in the 15 varieties of Chinese jujube, and 55 characteristic polyphenols such as syringetin, spinosin and kaempferol were reported for the first time.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus and a major cause of end-stage renal disease. Isoferulic acid (IFA) is a phenolic compound that has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hypoglycemic effects. Researches and our previous study showed the potential anti-diabetic capacity and anti- oxidative stress damage targeting podocytes of IFA.
