Methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer, a primary component of dental resins, is known to induce cytotoxicity, dermatitis, and neuropathy. The objective of this study was to assess the incidence of micronuclei (MN) in buccal mucosal cells of dental technicians exposed to MMA using Buccal Micronucleus Cytome (BMCyt) assay. The Risk Group (RG=13) consisted of all the technicians working in the prosthetic production laboratory of KKU-College of Dentistry. The Control Group (CG=14) consisted of healthy students and doctors matching the age of RG subjects. Buccal mucosa scrapes obtained from all the 27 RG and CG subjects were stained with Papanicolaou stain and observed under oil immersion lens (100×) for the presence of MN. There were no significant differences in the incidence of MN between RG and CG (p>0.05).

Purpose: Photon counting detectors offer promising advancements in computed tomography (CT) imaging by enabling the quantification and three-dimensional imaging of contrast agents and tissue types through simultaneous multi-energy projections from broad X-ray spectra. However, the accuracy of these decomposition methods hinges on precise composite spectral attenuation values that one must reconstruct from spectral micro-CT. Errors in such estimations could be due to effects such as beam hardening, object scatter, or detector sensor-related spectral distortions such as fluorescence.

Amphiphilic copolymers of comb-like poly(poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate) (PPEGMA) with methyl methacrylate (MMA) synthesized by one-pot atom transfer radical polymerization were mixed with lithium bis (trifluoromethanesulfonyl) imide salt to formulate dry solid polymer electrolytes (DSPE) for semisolid-state Li-ion battery applications. The PEO-type side chain length (EO monomer's number) in the PEGMA macromonomer units was varied, and its influence on the mechanical and electrochemical characteristics was investigated. It was found that the copolymers, due to the presence of PMMA segments, possess viscoelastic behavior and less change in mechanical properties than a PEO homopolymer with 100 kDa molecular weight in the investigated temperature range.

Dual control of the molecular weight and tacticity in proton transfer anionic polymerization (PTAP) of methyl methacrylate (MMA) was investigated by using various ligands in the presence of a bulky potassium base catalyst and an organic compound with a weakly acidic C-H bond as dormant species in toluene at 0 °C. The tacticity of the resulting poly(MMA) (PMMA) produced without ligands was nearly atactic (// = 22/54/24). However, the use of 18-crown-6 as a ligand afforded predominantly syndiotactic PMMA ( ≈ 58%), whereas the use of chiral bis(oxazoline) ligands gave slightly isotactic-rich PMMA ( ≈ 32%).

Very high heat is generated during the polymerization of poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) bone cement, which is used for implant fixation in orthopedic surgery. As such, it has been suggested that irrigating the bone cement layer in the surgical site with a saline solution is a way of cooling the layer. In this study, we aimed to determine the influence of irrigation with a saline solution on the flexural strength and the microstructure of the test specimens of two PMMA bone cement brands: Simplex P and FIX 1.

Polymer-based catalysts have garnered significant interest for their efficiency, reusability, and compatibility with various synthesis processes. In catalytic applications, polymers offer the advantage of structural versatility, enabling functional groups to be tailored for specific catalytic activities. In this study, we developed a novel magnetic copolymer of methyl methacrylate and maleic anhydride (PMMAn), synthesized via in situ chemical polymerization of methyl methacrylate onto maleic anhydride, using benzoyl peroxide as a free-radical initiator.
