The HIFI instrument aboard the Herschel satellite has allowed the observation and characterization of light hydrides, the building blocks of interstellar chemistry. In this article, we revisit the ortho/para ratio for H2O(+) toward the Sgr B2(M) cloud core. The line of sight toward this star forming region passes through several spiral arms and the gas in the Bar potential in the inner Galaxy. In contrast to earlier findings, which used fewer lines to constrain the ratio, we find a ratio of 3, which is uniformly consistent with high-temperature formation of the species. In view of the reactivity of this ion, this matches the expectations.

The collision-induced rate coefficients of ortho-para conversion for the H + H reaction provide accurate information to probe the lifetime of cold environments in interstellar media. Rotationally resolved reaction probabilities are calculated at the low collision energy regime (0 < ≤ 0.3 eV) by employing the coupled three-dimensional (3D) time-dependent wave packet (TDWP) formalism in hyperspherical coordinates on a recently constructed ab initio ground adiabatic potential energy surface of H [ , , 204306] for the process H + H ( = 0, = 0-5) → H + H (' = 0, ').

Ortho to para hydrogen conversion over bimetallic iron and cobalt catalysts.

The catalytic conversion of ortho-hydrogen (o-H) to para-hydrogen (p-H) serves as a crucial step in the storage of liquid hydrogen. A variety of iron-cobalt bimetallic catalysts (FCO) were synthesized using a precipitation method, incorporating diverse levels of Co doping into Fe-based catalysts. The effects of Co doping on the crystal structure, porosity, and magnetism of FCO catalysts were studied by XRD, N physical adsorption, FTIR, XPS, and VSM analyses.

Hypothesis: Ortho and para water are the two nuclear isomers where the hydrogen protons align to give a total nuclear spin of 1 or 0. The equilibrium ratio of 3:1 is established slowly in freshly evaporated water vapour while the isomers behave distinct gasses, with their own partial pressures. Magnetic-field-induced ortho ⟷ para transformations are expected to alter the evaporation rate.

Cold clusters of molecular hydrogen were created using a pulsed nozzle. The thermodynamical states of the clusters were characterized by measuring the cluster beam velocity and the laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectra of embedded molecules. Two distinct velocity components were identified in the beam that originates from different clustering mechanisms.

Preparation of Lignin-Based High-Ortho Thermoplastic Phenolic Resins and Fibers.

Surplus lignin, which is inefficiently used, is generated in the forestry industry. Currently, most studies use lignin instead of phenol to synthesize thermosetting resins which cannot be reprocessed, thus affecting its application field. Thermoplastic phenolic resin has an orderly structure and excellent molding performance, which can greatly improve its application field and economic value.
