The DNA-translocator ATPase PilF of Thermus thermophilus HB27 is a hexamer built by six identical subunits. Despite the presence of a conserved zinc-binding site in every subunit, only one zinc atom per hexamer was found. Re-examination of the zinc content of PilF purified from cells grown in complex media with different lots of yeast extract revealed six zinc atoms per hexamer. These data demonstrate that the low zinc content reported before was most likely a result of zinc depletion of the yeast extract used.

This study aimed to explore the mechanism by which Zn retards Fe toxicity by analyzing the morphological, photosynthetic, and chloroplast physiological parameters of wheat seedlings treated with either single or combined Zn and Fe. Different behavior of the seedlings was observed under untreated and treated conditions. The most discriminating quantitative traits were associated with leaf area, biomass dry mass and fresh mass, net photosynthetic rate, intercellular CO concentration, stomatal conductance, transpiration rate of seedlings, Hill reaction, Mg-ATPase and Ca-ATPase activities, malondialdehyde and O contents, and glutathione reductase, ascorbate peroxidase, peroxidase, and superoxide dismutase activities and their gene expression in the seedling chloroplast.

Novel sustainable agricultural strategies that enhance soil nutrients and human nutrition are crucial for meeting global food production needs. Here, we evaluate the potential of "glacial flour," a naturally crushed rock produced by glaciers known to be rich in nutrients (P, K, and micronutrients) needed for plant growth. Our proof-of-concept study, investigated soybean ( var.

Vanadium-based oxides have garnered significant attention for aqueous zinc batteries (AZBs), whereas sluggish Zn diffusion and structural collapse remain major challenges in achieving high-performance cathodes. Herein, different structures of iron-vanadium oxides were fabricated by modulating the amount of vanadium content. It is found that the porous Mott-Schottky heterojunction composed of FeVO and FeVO mixed phase was used to construct a self-generated FeVO-5 structure, which could lower the diffusion barrier and improve the electron transport derived from the formed built-in electric field at the interface, showing faster reaction kinetics and improved capacity compared with the singe-phase FeVO-1.

This study investigates the therapeutic and nutritional potential of fenugreek sprouts from 30 diverse genotypes sourced from various regions. The aim was to characterize and compare their therapeutic attributes, including antioxidant capacity, antidiabetic, and anti-cholinesterase activities, along with their nutritional compositions, particularly minerals, and protein content. Results revealed significant variations among the genotypes in terms of their therapeutic properties.

Cestodes in Eurasian wolves () and domestic dogs () in Switzerland.

Institute of Parasitology, Vetsuisse Faculty, University of Bern, Länggassstrasse 122, 3012, Bern, Switzerland.

Eurasian wolves () and domestic dogs () are definitive hosts of numerous cestode species. While infections with adult stages in canids are usually subclinical, some species pose a zoonotic risk or cause infections in wildlife and livestock, resulting in disease and/or economic losses. This study aimed to determine the prevalence, species composition, and geographical distribution of cestode infections in dogs and free-ranging wolves in Switzerland.
