This paper presents distribution of phosphorus (total P, organic and inorganic P) in the southern of Caspian Sea sediments where collected from four sampling stations in the summer 2009. Several forms of the phosphorus in sediment were separated and extracted according to sequential extraction method. Then extracted phosphorus in each fraction was determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometery. Five forms of phosphorus were studied (i) loosely sorbed phosphorus, (ii) ferric-iron-bound phosphorus, (iii) authigenic phosphorus, (iv) detrital phosphorus, and (v) organic phosphorus. The total P contents were ranged from 124.5 to 328.2 μg g(-1). It was found that more than 98% of the total P is inorganic phosphorus (IP). Among the four forms of IP, loosely bound P, P-Fe, P-detrital and P-authigenic distribution ranges were 2.70-17.31%, 10.00-44.79%, 0.40-1.70% and 48.35-83.48%, respectively. Result also showed that the most abundant forms of phosphorus were authigenic phosphorus. Relative abundances of other forms of phosphorus follow the order: P-Fe>loosely bound-P>organic P>detrital P.

As an essential micronutrient, phosphorus plays a key role in oceanic biogeochemistry, with its cycling intimately connected to the global carbon cycle and climate change. Authigenic carbonate fluorapatite (CFA) has been suggested to represent a significant phosphorus sink in the deep ocean, but its formation mechanisms in oceanic low-productivity settings remain poorly constrained. Applying X-ray absorption near edge structure, transmission electron microscopy, and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer analyses, we report a unique mineral assemblage where CFA crystals coat phillipsite in abyssal sediments of the East Mariana Basin and the Philippine Sea.

Phosphorus (P) availability in soils is often constrained by its accumulation in non-labile phosphorus (NLP) forms, limiting its accessibility to plants. This study examines how soil physical properties, chemical characteristics, and climatic conditions influence phosphorus fractionation and the transformation of NLP into plant-available labile phosphorus (LP). Utilizing global structural equation modeling (SEM), we found that silt content enhances organic phosphorus fractions, including NaHCO-Po and NaOH-Po.

Corynosoma pseudohamanni Zdzitowiecki, 1984 (Polymorphidae) was described from the intestinal tract of 5 species of seals including the type and main host, the Weddell seal Leptonycotes weddellii (Lesson) in the South Shetlands, West Antarctica. Notothenia coriiceps was the primary paratenic host of 14 fish hosts reported in the original description. We describe excysted juveniles from the body cavity of the major paratenic host, Notothenia coriiceps Richardson collected off Galindez Island, Argentine Islands, West Antarctica for the first time.
