Objectives: The authors aimed to investigate the effect of β-Glucan on healing of an experimental left-sided colon anastomosis model.
Material And Methods: Twenty adult male Wistar albino rats were randomized into two groups which had colonic transection and end-to-end anastomosis. Group I (Control): anastomosis group, received no treatment (n = 10); group II, anastomosis + β-Glucan (50 mg/kg/day within seven days after surgical procedure). Bursting pressure, hydroxyproline levels and histopathological characteristics of the anastomosis were analyzed.
Results: The average burst pressure of Groups I and II were 106.67 ± 5.00 and 148.00 ± 11.35 mmHg and hydroxyproline levels were 0.85 ± 0.14 and 1.45 ± 0.46 µg/mg, respectively. Both the burst pressure and hydroxyproline levels in group II were statistically significantly higher (p < 0.05). Histopathological examination revealed less epithelial damage in group II (p < 0.05). Though not statistically significant, less edema and damage to the submucosal-muscular layer was seen in Group II (p = 0079).
Conclusions: Due to significant increases in anastomotic bursting pressures and tissue hydroxyproline levels and considering the inhibitory effect of β-Glucan on epithelial damage, edema, and submucosal-muscular layer damage, β-Glucan was thought to contribute to the healing of the anastomosis.

Insulin resistance and diabetes are associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) conditions, which are distinguished by metabolic dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammation. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a NAD-dependent deacetylase, is fundamental in regulating metabolic pathways, reducing inflammation, and improving antioxidant defenses. This is the first study to investigate the effects of SRT1720, a SIRT1 activator, in diabetic rats on a high-fat diet.

Background: Intraabdominal adhesions increase the incidence and length of surgical complications. Many anti-adhesive agents have been used for this purpose, but no definitive solution has yet been found. Studies on the prevention and reduction of anastomotic leakage, therefore, remain up to date.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of dental pulp stem cell-derived exosomes (DPSCs-Exos) on the biological behaviour of fibroblasts, particularly on keloid fibroblasts (KFs) and normal skin fibroblasts (NFs), with a view to providing new insights into cellular regenerative medicine. We obtained DPSCs-Exos by ultracentrifugation and co-cultured it with KFs and NFs. We detected its effect on cell proliferation using the CCK-8 assay; cell migration ability by cell scratch and Transwell assays; extracellular matrix synthesis using the hydroxyproline content assay; the expression levels of genes associated with fibrosis by PCR assay; and the expression levels of proteins related to fibrosis in the cells using the Western Blot method.

Background: Liver fibrosis could lead to serious secondary diseases, including osteodystrophy. The interaction between liver and bone has not been fully elucidated, thus existing therapies for osteodystrophy secondary to liver fibrosis are often ineffective. FGF23 was initially found as an endocrine regulator of phosphate homeostasis, but recently, its involvement in fibrosis has been suggested.

Hepatic fibrosis, a chronic liver response to injury with potential severe outcomes like cirrhosis and liver cancer, necessitates urgent noninvasive diagnostic techniques to halt disease progression. We herein for the first time developed a single-chain peptide probe targeting pathological collagen for in vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of hepatic fibrosis. The novel (GhypO) probe, distinguished by its unique monomeric conformation achieved through Pro to (2,4)-hydroxyproline (hyp) substitution and subsequent disruption of hydrogen bonding, exhibits selectivity for pathological collagen over its intact counterpart in connective tissues.
