Objective: To review the clinical, etiological, diagnostic, and prognostic characteristics of trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome).
Data Sources: Scientific articles in the MedLine, Lilacs, and SciELO databases were searched using the descriptors 'trisomy 18' and 'Edwards syndrome'. The research was not limited to a specific time period and included all articles in such databases.
Data Synthesis: Edwards syndrome is a disease characterized by a broad clinical picture and a very reserved prognosis. There are descriptions of more than 130 different anomalies, which can involve virtually all organs and systems. Its findings are the result of the presence of three copies of chromosome 18. The main chromosomal constitution observed among these patients is a free trisomy of chromosome 18, which is associated with the phenomenon of nondisjunction, especially in maternal gametogenesis. Most fetuses with Edwards syndrome die during the embryonic and fetal life. The median of survival among live births has usually varied between 2.5 and 14.5 days.
Conclusions: Knowledge on the clinical picture and on the prognosis of Edwards syndrome patients is of great importance regarding the neonatal care and the decisions about invasive treatments. The speed to have a confirmed diagnosis is important for making decisions about medical procedures. Often, interventions are performed under emergency conditions, without many opportunities for discussion, and they involve difficult medical and ethical issues.

Functional Motor Disorders (FMD) consists in symptoms of altered motor function not attributable to typical neurological and medical conditions. This study aimed to explore explicit and perceptual measures of Sense of Ownership, Agency, and Body Schema in FMD patients, and assess whether these alterations are specific to FMD or shared with other functional disturbances. Twelve FMD patients, ten with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS, a functional gastrointestinal disorder) and fifteen healthy controls (HC) underwent: (i) the Mirror Box Illusion (MBI), requiring participants to perform tapping movements with their dominant hand concealed from sight, while visual feedback was provided by an alien hand under visuo-motor congruency or incongruency conditions; (ii) a Forearm Bisection Task before and after exposure to the MBI, and the Embodiment Questionnaire after the MBI, as perceptual and explicit indices of the embodiment illusion, respectively.

Dysregulated differentiation of naïve CD4+ T cells into T helper 17 (Th17) cells is likely a key factor predisposing to many autoimmune diseases. Therefore, better understanding how Th17 differentiation is regulated is essential to identify novel therapeutic targets and strategies to identify individuals at high risk of developing autoimmunity. Here, we extend our prior work using chemical inhibitors to provide mechanistic insight into a novel regulator of Th17 differentiation, the kinase dual-specificity tyrosine phosphorylation-regulated kinase 1A (DYRK1A).

Background: We have noted that some adolescents and young adults with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) report difficulty with arms-overhead activities, suggestive of brachial plexus dysfunction or thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS). In the TOS literature, diagnostic maneuvers focus on the provocation of upper limb symptoms (arm fatigue and heaviness, paresthesias, neck and upper back pain), but not on elicitation of systemic symptoms.
Objectives: To estimate the proportion of patients with fatiguing illness who experience local and systemic symptoms during a common maneuver used in evaluating TOS-the elevated arm stress test (EAST).

Importance: A substantial number of individuals worldwide experience long COVID, or post-COVID condition. Other postviral and autoimmune conditions have a female predominance, but whether the same is true for long COVID, especially within different subgroups, is uncertain.
Objective: To evaluate sex differences in the risk of developing long COVID among adults with SARS-CoV-2 infection.

A 62-year-old man with acute coronary syndrome underwent an echocardiogram for evaluation. A transthoracic echocardiogram revealed masses within a giant coronary sinus. This case highlights the role of multimodality imaging in investigating coronary sinus enlargement, coronary sinus thrombosis, and the approach to management.
