Optimal management of adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) requires a multidisciplinary team (MDT) approach, fostering a collaborative culture over an individualistic approach. Within this framework, subspecialty-trained radiologists provide crucial imaging expertise, supporting cardiologists, surgeons, and interventional cardiologists in diagnoses, treatment planning, and follow-up evaluations. Advanced imaging tools and a nuanced understanding of surgical and interventional procedures enable radiologists to provide valuable insights to clinicians.

Inactivation of Zika Virus with Hydroxypropyl-Beta-Cyclodextrin.

Vaccines (Basel)

January 2025

Division of Basic Biomedical Sciences, Sanford School of Medicine, University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD 57069, USA.

: Zika virus (ZIKV) infection is associated with life-threatening diseases in humans. To date, there are no available FDA-approved therapies or vaccines for the specific treatment or prevention of ZIKV infection. Variation in the ZIKV envelope protein (Env), along with its complex quaternary structure, presents challenges to synthetic approaches for developing an effective vaccine and broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs).

Mesoporous materials have garnered significant interest because of their porous structure, large surface area and ease of surface functionalization to incorporate the functional groups of choice. Herein, chiral mesoporous silica nanoparticles (CMSNPs) were prepared using quaternary amino silane as the template, tetramethyl orthosilicate as the silica source and proline and cellulose as chiral selector. The developed CMSNPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, BET surface area analysis and BJH pore size/volume analysis.

Anti-Mold Activities of Cationic Oligomeric Surfactants.

Langmuir

January 2025

CAS Key Laboratory of Colloid, Interface, and Chemical Thermodynamics, Beijing National Laboratory for Molecular Sciences Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, P. R. China.

Molds are persistent and harmful but receive far less research attention compared with pathogenic bacteria. With the increase in microbial resistance to single-chain surfactant antimicrobial agents, it is crucial to investigate how surfactant structures affect the antimicrobial activity of surfactants. Here, we have studied the antimold efficacy of a series of oligomeric cationic quaternary ammonium surfactants at varying oligomerization levels with or without dynamic covalent imine bonds.

Fully biobased and robust antibacterial cellulose aerogel for uranium extraction.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

Qingdao New Energy Shandong Laboratory, Shandong Energy Institute, Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qingdao 266101, China.

Developing efficient adsorbent is imperative for the utilization of uranium resources in seawater. Marine microorganisms and bacteria play an important role in the process of adsorption of uranium. In this work, a completely bio-based antimicrobial aerogel (quaternary cellulose/chitosan aerogel-QCNF/CS) was prepared by cross-linking quaternary cellulose nanofibers (QCNF) and chitosan (CS) via citric acid (CA).
