Background: Myocardial injury is common after brain injury; however, few studies have reported serial cardiac troponin (cTn) measurements to distinguish whether the myocardial injury is acute or chronic. The fourth Universal Definition of Myocardial Infarction introduced for the first time the criteria for acute myocardial injury (AMI). We aimed to investigate the prevalence and prognostic implications of AMI in primary intracerebral hemorrhage.

Background And Aims: Meteorin-like protein (Metrnl) has been recently suggested as a new adipokine with protective cardiovascular effects. Its circulating levels in patients seem to be associated with heart failure (HF), although with contradictory results. Our aim was to ascertain whether this adipokine could estimate the prognosis of HF in de novo HF (DNHF) patients.

Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Taif University, Taif, 24227, 20006, Saudi Arabia.

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a leading cause of mortality on a global scale, with a higher prevalence observed among men. This study investigated the protective effect of vitamin D supplementation on CVD.

Methods: A cohort of thirty mice was divided into three groups: control, T1 diabetic, and T1 diabetic groups that received vitamin D treatment.

Unlabelled: A 16-year-old man presented to the Accident and Emergence services with a 10-day history of shortness of breath, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhoea, poor oral intake, chest pain, jaundice, diplopia and reduced urine output. He was initially treated for sepsis, however, subsequent imaging and blood cultures confirmed the diagnosis of Lemierre's syndrome (LS). LS, also known as necrobacillosis or post-pharyngitis anaerobic septicaemia is comprised of a triad of metastatic septic emboli secondary to pharyngitis, bacteraemia, and internal jugular vein thrombophlebitis.

Cardiac troponin levels might rise significantly after cardiac surgeries as a surgical outcome rather than ischemic myocardial damage alone, making the diagnosis of postoperative (type 5) myocardial infarction challenging. Previous studies have demonstrated that cardiac troponin is related to left ventricular mass, but this correlation was not investigated after cardiac surgery. We aimed to study a possible correlation between postoperative cardiac troponin levels and left ventricular mass index in patients who underwent cardiac surgery to refine the diagnosis of type 5 myocardial infarction, but observed no such correlation regardless of preoperative troponin levels or surgery type.
