Acetogen Clostridium sp. MT1802 originally producing 336-mM acetate from inorganic carbon of CO₂/CO was engineered to eliminate acetate production and sporulation using Cre-lox66/lox71-approach. The recombinant started producing 105-mM formate expressing synthetic formate dehydrogenase integrated in two copies. Formate-producing recombinant was further engineered to express synthetic formate acetyltransferase, acetolactate synthase, acetolactate decarboxylase, and alcohol dehydrogenase integrated in two copies each using Tn7 tool. The resulted recombinant started producing 102-mM 2,3-butanediol (23BD). 23BD production was confirmed in five independent single step fermentation runs 25 days long each in five repeats using syngas blend 60 % CO and 40 % H₂ (v/v) (p <0.005). 23BD production was 78 % if only CO₂/H₂ blend was fed instead of syngas (p <0.005). 23BD from CO₂/H₂ blend might serve as a commercial route to mitigate global warming in proportion to CO₂ fermentation scale worldwide.

This study introduces a new nano catalyst tailored for the eco-friendly synthesis of pyrido[2,3-]pyrimidine via a three-component one-pot reaction involving benzaldehydes, malononitrile, and uracil. To achieve this objective, we anchored copper acetate onto the surface of layered double hydroxides modified with 1,3‑benzenedisulfonyl amide (BDSA) (LDH@PTRMS@BDSA@Cu(NO)), which exhibited remarkable activity and selectivity. The main benefits of this method include high product yield, swift reaction times, straightforward purification, catalyst reusability, and the employment of a mild reaction process.

In this work, selenium (IV) ions were adsorbed from aqueous solutions by the strongly basic anion exchange resin Amberlite IRA-400. The morphology of the resin before and after Se(IV) sorption was investigated using different techniques such as energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). To determine the ideal sorption conditions, a batch approach was used to examine the variables affecting Se(IV) sorption performance, including pH, shaking time, adsorbent dosage, initial metal ion concentration, and temperature.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), traditionally consumed as fermented foods, are now being applied to the medical field beyond health-functional food as probiotics. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously discover and evaluate new strains with suitable probiotic characteristics, mainly focusing on safety. In this study, we isolated eight new strains from postmenopausal vaginal fluid using culturomics approaches, an emerging area of interest.

In order to study the change rule of freshness and acid ions in reconstituted tobacco slurry, the content changes of 17 organic acids and 5 inorganic anions in reconstituted tobacco slurry with different residence times under confined condition were determined by on-line solid-phase extraction ion chromatography in this study. The results showed that the changes of acetic acid, nitrate ion and isovaleric acid in different reconstituted tobacco slurries with oscillation time were regular and consistent, and the trends of the changes of acetic acid, nitrate ion and isovaleric acid in different reconstituted tobacco slurries with oscillation time were correlated with each other in a highly significant way. Taking the evaluation of olfactory aroma and sensory quality qualities of reconstituted tobacco pulps with different residence times as a benchmark, it was found that the variation patterns of nitrate ions and isovaleric acid in reconstituted tobacco pulps with oscillation time were consistent with the variation patterns of olfactory and sensory qualities in the process of closed oscillation; compared with the fresh pulp, the olfactory aroma and sensory qualities of tobacco pulps had unpleasant odours appearing when the content of nitrate ions was reduced by about 48%.

Hematological malignancies encompass a diverse array of subtypes, contributing to substantial heterogeneity that poses challenges in predicting clinical outcomes. Leveraging the capabilities of nuclear magnetic resonance holds substantial promise in the detection of serum biomarkers and individual metabolic alterations in patients. The study involved the analysis of the sera from patients with acute myeloid leukemia, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and non-Hodgkin lymphoma to investigate the impacted metabolites and their associated pathways.
