Menopause is a physiological event of women's life that is the end of menstrual cycles and the end of the fertile period. Normally the age at which women reach menopause is between 50 and 52 years, as the world average. Menopause occurs when the functional ovarian reserve is exhausted or can be induced by surgical removal of the ovaries. What follows, however, is the establishment of a state of hypoestrogenism, which potentially affects various organs and systems (genito-urinary system, cardiovascular system, skeleton, skin, brain) and quality of life of women (varying degrees of vasomotor symptoms, vaginal atrophy, osteoporosis). Hormone replacement therapy (HRT), it is based on estrogen or estrogen and progesterone, can be used to compensate for estrogen deficiency and to prevent or limit the damages that may result. During the years, there have been several observational studies designed to identify the risks and benefits arising from the use of postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy, in spontaneous and surgical menopause. In fact, although several studies have shown that women treated with estrogen enjoyed a better overall level of health, over the last decade have raised doubts about the safety of hormone replacement therapy long term. In our study we try to discuss, based on a review of the literature and evidence available to date, what are the present indications and controindications to the use of hormone replacement therapy.

Differences/disorders of sex development (DSDs) are a diverse group of congenital conditions that result in disagreement between an individual's sex chromosomes, gonads, and/or anatomical sex. The 46, XY DSD group is vast and includes various conditions caused by genetic variants, hormonal imbalances, or abnormal sensitivity to testicular hormones, leading to varying degrees of under-virilization. A 19-year-old phenotypically normal female from Kakamega, Kenya, presented with primary amenorrhea.

Background: Growth hormone replacement is indicated in adults with severe growth hormone (GH) deficiency, adult growth hormone deficiency assessment (AGHDA) score of at least 11 and are receiving treatment for other pituitary hormone deficiencies. There are no data looking at the cessation of GH replacement in adult patients with severe GH deficiency and the factors that predict the likelihood of patients continuing or stopping growth hormone replacement.

Methods: We audited patients on the GH register between January 2006 and January 2023 in Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS foundation Trust, a UK tertiary hospital.

Cushing syndrome due to ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion (EAS) is rare and may progress rapidly, making treatment very challenging. We report a 27-year-old woman with metastatic neuroendocrine tumor (NET) who presented with sudden onset and rapidly progressing fatigue, muscle weakness, and weight gain. Laboratory findings confirmed severe EAS with new onset hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, and hyperglycemia.

Purpose: The number of frozen-thawed embryo transfers (FETs) has recently increased, and FET must be completed in the ovulatory (NC-FET) or programmed hormone replacement cycle (HRC-FET). However, the relationship between FET and abnormal placentation is unclear. This study aimed to determine whether the two distinct endometrial preparation protocols affect the incidence of several pathologic conditions caused by abnormal placentation, such as placenta with velamentous umbilical cord insertion (VCI), hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), and placenta accreta spectrum (PAS).

Objective: To determine the prevalence of septo-optic-dysplasia (SOD) in patients with prenatally identified absent cavum septi pellucidi (CSP), agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC) or dysgenesis of the corpus callosum (DCC).

Study Design: This retrospective chart review investigated neonates prenatally diagnosed with an absent CSP, ACC, or DCC who were admitted to a single quaternary academic medical center in the Pacific Northwest between 2016-2023. This prenatal diagnosis prompted a routine and protocolized postnatal workup for SOD including laboratory evaluation, imaging, and specialty consultation.
