Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) insertion is a neurosurgical procedure done routinely for managing hydrocephalus. However, the technique of shunt insertion remains controversial. Objective: As COVID-19 restrictions are eased, there has been a lively debate on whether residency recruitment interviews should be held virtually or in-person. However, environmental impact has rarely been a focus of this debate and only by inference from limited survey data. In this study, we aimed to estimate the carbon emissions generated from air-travel versus in-person interviews in the general surgery residency recruitment.

The present review provides the first analysis and synthesis of the available scientific information on the effects of anthropogenic contaminants on cephalopod embryos, paralarvae, and juveniles. We evaluated 46 articles published between 1970 and 2023 that focused on trace elements (69%), pharmaceutical compounds (11%), persistent organic compounds (11%), and plastics (9%). To date, the greatest scientific effort has originated from Europe and Asia (France [57%], China [9%], Italy [7%], and Spain [4%]), with few reports available from the rest of the world.

Oral Health Initiative, Nigerian Institute of Medical Research, Yaba, Lagos, Nigeria.
Background: Despite assumptions that insurance coverage would boost oral healthcare utilization in Nigeria, there is insufficient evidence supporting this claim. This study investigates the associations between residential location, awareness of the oral health insurance scheme, history of dental service utilization, and acceptance of oral health insurance among individuals benefiting from the Ilera Eko Scheme; a scheme that integrates preventive and curative oral health care into the state health insurance scheme.
Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from July to November 2023 recruiting from a database of 1520 enrollees aged of 18 and 72-years-old who had been on the scheme for at least three months.

Background: In a world confronted with new and connected challenges, novel strategies are needed to help children and adults achieve their full potential, to predict, prevent and treat disease, and to achieve equity in services and outcomes. Australia's Generation Victoria (GenV) cohorts are designed for multi-pronged discovery (what could improve outcomes?) and intervention research (what actually works, how much and for whom?). Here, we describe the key features of its protocol.
