Biomaterial injection-based therapies have showed cautious success in restoration of cardiac function and prevention of adverse remodelling into heart failure after myocardial infarction (MI). However, the underlying mechanisms are not well understood. Computational studies utilised simplified representations of the therapeutic myocardial injectates. Wistar rats underwent experimental infarction followed by immediate injection of polyethylene glycol hydrogel in the infarct region. Hearts were explanted, cryo-sectioned and the region with the injectate histologically analysed. Histological micrographs were used to reconstruct the dispersed hydrogel injectate. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging data from a healthy rat were used to obtain an end-diastolic biventricular geometry which was subsequently adjusted and combined with the injectate model. The computational geometry of the injectate exhibited microscopic structural details found the in situ. The combination of injectate and cardiac geometry provides realistic geometries for multiscale computational studies of intra-myocardial injectate therapies for the rat model that has been widely used for MI research.

Due to resistance to common antibiotics, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections pose a significant threat to human health. In this study, we developed an injectable, adhesive, and biocompatible hydrogel with multiple functions. Specifically, carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) crosslinked with hyaluronic acid (HA) forms the primary framework of the hydrogel.

Background/objectives: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common high-grade primary brain cancer in adults. Despite efforts to advance treatment, GBM remains treatment resistant and inevitably progresses after first-line therapy. Induced neural stem cell (iNSC) therapy is a promising, personalized cell therapy approach that has been explored to circumvent challenges associated with the current GBM treatment.

Background: Using hydrogels for the controlled release of drugs is beneficial for patients, who then receive the proper dose of the medicinal substance. In addition, the formulation can provide more consistent drug absorption while reducing the frequency of dosing.
Objectives: The aim of this investigation is to propose a novel HA (sodium hyaluronate)-based hydrogel for intra-articular injection doped with synthetic polymers and incorporated with bupivacaine hydrochloride (Bu) as a local anesthetic.

Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is an endometrial damage repair disorder that leads to menstrual loss, amenorrhea, and infertility in women; therefore, addressing this dilemma is a critical challenge. In this study, a multifunctional hydrogel, comprising oxidized sodium alginate (OSA), strontium carbonate (SrCO), and betamethasone 21-phosphate sodium (BSP), was formulated to facilitate angiogenesis, reduce fibrosis, and support tissue repair in the treatment of IUA. The composite hydrogels showed significant bioactivity on human endometrial stromal cells (HESCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs), promoting the injured HESCs repair, reversing the degree of fibrosis to a certain extent, and enhancing the proliferation and migration of HUVECs.

Bone disorders have increased with increasing the human lifespan, and despite the tissue's ability to self-regeneration, in many congenital problems and hard fractures, bone grafting such as autograft, allograft, and biomaterials implantation through surgery is traditionally used. Because of the adverse effects of these methods, the emergence of injectable hydrogels without the need for surgery and causing more pain for the patient is stunning to develop a new pattern for hard tissue engineering. These materials are formed with various natural and synthetic polymers with a crosslinked network through various chemical methods such as click chemistry, Michael enhancement, Schiff's base and enzymatic reaction and physical interactions with high water absorption which can mimic the environment of cells.
